We are excited to announce that registration is now open for the 2022 Oregon Main Street Conference, Oct 5-7, in beautiful downtown Klamath Falls! The OMS conference is a great opportunity to re-evaluate your work and consider new opportunities for improving your historic downtown or traditional commercial neighborhood district. From the dynamic and engaging sessions and plenaries to the informal, energizing conversations had in-between, attendees leave with fresh ideas and renewed passion for the impactful work you are doing or inspired to get started.
Conference Highlights Include:
* Opening Keynote: Mary Means is best known for leading the team that created the National Main Street Center. More than 1,600 towns and historic neighborhood corridors in 40+ states have successfully used the Main Street Approach to bring people back to their historic cores. Mary was a Loeb Fellow at Harvard Graduate School of Design. Her small but mighty planning firm has helped communities and other public interest organizations with strategic plans that achieve strong public support. Her work has been honored by the American Planning Association with its 2018 Planning Pioneer Award, and by the National Trust for Historic Preservation with the 2020 Crowninshield Award, the highest honor in historic preservation. * Plenary & Deep Dive Workshop Speaker: Andrew Howard is internationally respected for his people focused design approach and rapid-implementation strategies that are being replicated around the world. Howard’s overarching goal is to equip new leaders to take action in their communities. Andrew will bring examples of how Better Block projects and other quick-build actions have revitalized communities from Sidney Australia to Bethel, Vermont. Be aware this keynote has led to people painting their own bike lanes, setting up pop-up shops and converting parking spaces to parklets. Before becoming a rabble rouser, Howard was a transportation planner at Kimley-Horn and Associates and the Houston-Galveston Area Council. He holds a Bachelor of Geography degree from Texas A&M University and is a Loeb Fellow of the Harvard Graduate School of Design.

Museums Discover Impact Investing
More museums have begun considering impact investing—managing funds in a way that drives mission-related values as well as financial returns—but they lag behind other institution types in implementing it. A new report digs into why that is, what can move the needle, and why the practice might be crucial to securing future support.

Three Oregon Organizations Awarded Funds Under 2022 Capitol History Gateway Exhibit Sponsorship Program
Three Oregon organizations have been awarded monies to produce exhibits that will be displayed at the Oregon State Capitol. Funded by the Oregon State Capitol Foundation (OSCF), a 501(c)3 non-profit, the awardees are the Hellenic-American Cultural Center and Museum “Master Penworks of Tom Stefopoulos: The Hellenic Artist of the Lovejoy Columns,” the Josephy Center for Arts and Culture “The Nez Perce in Oregon,” and Nordic Northwest “Swedish Cabins: Legacy of Henry Steiner and Fogelbo.”
Since the historic portion of the Capitol is not accessible due to construction until 2025, awardees will be making their exhibits available virtually during the upcoming year and will be scheduled to bring a physical exhibit to the Capitol when the Galleria exhibit space reopens to the public in 2025.
Exhibits in the Capitol have become more focused on telling stories specific to Oregon history and many have had ties interwoven with democracy or government since the inception of the Capitol History Gateway Program. In 2021, the OSCF offered to support cultural and heritage museums wanting to tell their stories with an exhibit at the Capitol.
The Capitol’s Visitor Services Department produces the CHG Program, including events and exhibits, and administers the funding opportunity. For the next sponsorship cycle, which will open in November 2022, the OSCF will provide funding up to $5,000 per museum or organization, for up to five entities, for a maximum sponsorship total of $25,000.
For details about the funding opportunity, or to view past exhibits, visit https://bit.ly/3E0N0BO.
For more information, call Stacy Nalley, Public Outreach Coordinator at the Oregon State Capitol Visitor Services Department, 503-986-1392.

Request for Proposals: Oregon Historic Trails Fund
The Oregon Community Foundation is now accepting proposals for the Oregon Historic Trails Fund. Proposals related to non-designated historic trails will be considered on a case-by-case basis. The OCF/Oregon Historic Trails Fund will make grants upon the recommendation of an advisory committee to support projects that interpret, preserve, or maintain trail-related resources.
