What you will do:
As a Technical Resources Coordinator, you will promote and facilitate access to Oregon Heritage services and programs as part of the Outreach Bureau. You will directly coordinate the MentorCoprs program and support the Oregon Main Street Network.
In this role, you will assist the Outreach Bureau to plan, coordinate, conduct, and promote public education activities including trainings, workshops, and conferences as well as coordinate a communication plan and produce publications, news releases, listserv and website content.

Minimum Qualifications:
(a) Five (5) years of experience coordinating or administering a program
OR
(b) A Bachelor's Degree in Business or Public Administration, Community Development, History, Historic Preservation, Museum Studies, or a related field; AND Two (2) years of experience coordinating or administering a program.

State Advisory Committee on Historic Preservation recommendation results from Feb. 18 meeting

During the State Advisory Committee on Historic Preservation (SACHP) meeting on Feb. 18, 2022, the SACHP made the following recommendations regarding these National Register of Historic Places nomination form(s):

  *   Sumpter Valley Railway, Middle Fork (John Day River) Spur, Bates vicinity, Grant County REMOVED FROM AGENDA AT REQUEST OF PREPARER
  *   Sarah Helmick State Park, Monmouth vicinity, Polk County, RECOMMENDED
  *   Phoenix Pharmacy Building, Portland, Multnomah County, RECOMMENDED
  *   Portland Golf Club Clubhouse, Portland, Washington County TABLED

For the nomination forms to move forward in this process, required revisions, as identified during the SACHP meeting and by the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) staff, must be completed. SHPO staff will verify that the preparer addressed all required revisions. Then, the nomination forms will be provided to the State Historic Preservation Officer for their recommendation as to whether the nomination forms meet the National Register criteria for evaluation, are adequately documented, and technically, professionally, and procedurally correct and sufficient. Then, the nomination forms will be submitted to the Keeper of the National Register at the National Park Service for a final decision on listing.

Kam Wah Chung State Heritage Site museum tours available Spring Break, March 21-25

JOHN DAY, Oregon-If you're making Spring Break plans, why not include a visit to the John Day area and a tour of the museum at Kam Wah Chung State Heritage Site? The museum is open for guided tours March 21-25.

The 45-minute tour begins at 9 a.m. and at the top of each hour, except 12-1 p.m. The last tour of each day begins at 3 p.m. Each tour is limited to eight people inside the museum, although virtual tours are available by request. Make your reservation by calling 541-575-2800.

Summer tours are set for May 1-Oct. 31. Online registration is available at the park store<https://store.oregonstateparks.org/index.cfm?do=v.dsp_item&itemId=162&eventId=201>, as well as additional information about the tour.  Both the Spring Break and summer tours are free.

The Kam Wah Chung building and museum<https://stateparks.oregon.gov/index.cfm?do=park.profile&parkId=5> is a National Historic Landmark that preserves the home and businesses of two Chinese immigrants, Ing "Doc" Hay and Lung On. For more than 60 years the building was a social, medical, and religious center for Oregon's Chinese community.

Preservation Academy Workshops Announcement

Next month, Preservation Virginia and the Virginia Department of Historic Resources are offering a series of virtual, educational workshops on the fundamentals of historic preservation. The Virginia Preservation Academy will feature live lectures from preservation professionals of varying backgrounds, with direct interaction between participants and panelists.

The Preservation Academy is geared toward a diverse audience of preservation professionals, volunteers, architectural review board members, stewards of historic places, local government staff, community leaders, owners of historic properties, and anyone interested in historic preservation.

The 2022 Academy will consist of 4, 90-minute workshops, to be held March-April. Recordings of the workshops will serve as the foundation for a library of preservation training videos, which will be available to the public on the Virginia Department of Historic Resources' and Preservation Virginia's websites.

Judges Needed for Virtual Oregon History Day Contest

The Oregon Historical Society is looking for historians, educators, and history enthusiasts to volunteer as judges at the 2022 virtual Oregon History Day state contest<https://t.e2ma.net/click/7b85nh/jtxycc/z1qj4mb>. The Oregon History Day team will provide a training session about judging expectations and how to review student projects. Judging involves evaluating projects with a critical eye, making decisions, and offering students constructive feedback on their work. Judging teams will consist of a mix of experienced and first-time judges.

The virtual competition for middle and high school students will take place from April 22-26, 2022, and judging can be completed from home. Students will present their findings in one of five categories: historical papers, websites, documentaries, performances, and exhibit boards. Oregon History Day is an affiliate of National History Day(r), a research-based program that spans the school year, providing students with a unique opportunity to practice intensive historical research and interpretation.

Each History Day project must address the annual theme. This year's theme is "Debate & Diplomacy in History: Successes, Failures, Consequences<https://t.e2ma.net/click/7b85nh/jtxycc/furj4mb>." Students with outstanding projects from the state contest will be selected to move on to the National History Day(r) contest.
