Thinking about an end of year donor campaign? Check out this Donor Guide!
Oregon Main Street recently updated an awesome resource to help organizations plan out effective donor campaigns, Increasing Your Main Street's Financial Stability: A Guide to Turning Supporters into Donors<https://www.oregon.gov/oprd/OH/Documents/MainStreetWorkbookTurningSupportersIntoDonors.pdf>. With the end of the year approaching, consider end of year asks to help support the important work your organization is doing.
While this was developed specifically for Main Street organizations, there is some really great information that is relevant to any nonprofit including non-Main Street heritage organizations. Such as:

  * What channels are best for your investor campaign? (pg 10)
  * 12 week plan for an investor fundraising campaign (pg 13)
  * Info specifically on End-of-Year Fundraising Campaign (pg 31)
  * Planning, Training, and Sample Documents (pg 36-66)

Oregon Historical Society Education Spotlight: Native American Heritage Month
Taken from Oregon Historical Society's November E-Digest, Vol. 1
"Since time immemorial, Indigenous peoples have lived in what is now Oregon, forming deep connections to the land that persist today. Between Native American Heritage Month and Thanksgiving, it is a popular time to honor Native Americans' histories and cultures. OHS has created this Native American Heritage Month Guide<https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Ft.e2ma.net%2Fclick%2Ffyatvi%2Fjtxycc%2Frr9s9sb&data=05%7C01%7CHeritage.Info%40oprd.oregon.gov%7C8ff313722f1c44900bd108dabdd1ad11%7Caa3f6932fa7c47b4a0cea598cad161cf%7C0%7C0%7C638031006107148379%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000%7C%7C%7C&sdata=jEO9CWNnC3UWiKtAX8mS6hiI2Smrap6QGu%2F%2BQgD02tM%3D&reserved=0> in preparation for this time frame, but Indigenous history and perspectives should be woven into the classroom throughout the year. Oregon educators should utilize Tribal History/Shared History<https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Ft.e2ma.net%2Fclick%2Ffyatvi%2Fjtxycc%2F7jat9sb&data=05%7C01%7CHeritage.Info%40oprd.oregon.gov%7C8ff313722f1c44900bd108dabdd1ad11%7Caa3f6932fa7c47b4a0cea598cad161cf%7C0%7C0%7C638031006107148379%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000%7C%7C%7C&sdata=%2Fjgr6r7u0sWeyFw5TSLczcd1I2nmIYeBjzZKLzKINtA%3D&reserved=0> resources and professional development opportunities, created by the Oregon Department of Education (ODE). Senate Bill 13 (SB13), which directed the creation of those resources, also provides funds to each of the nine federally recognized tribes in Oregon to create individual place-based curriculum.
Acknowledging the systems of oppression and violence that have shaped both the current state of Indigenous peoples in Oregon and Oregon itself can be challenging. OHS is in constant reckoning with its place in that history. The Oregon Historical Society was created from the Oregon Pioneer Association, and those pioneer roots have contributed to the erasure, violence, and exclusion experienced by Indigenous people, nations, and communities in Oregon. Reconciliation starts with honest acknowledgement of that history and how it conflicts with OHS's current mission to "advance knowledge and inspire curiosity about all the people, places, and events that have shaped Oregon." As OHS confronts these inherently colonial practices through changes in institutional practices and goals, it is important to acknowledge that these ideological shifts stem from the efforts of Native American people, organizations, communities, and nations to work to build visibility and power across all sectors, including education and museums."
