Oregon Heritage resources related to grant management
Receiving a grant is very exciting for organizations because it means they are able to move work forward. It also means that they are adding a new responsibility to their duties: grant management. Check out these resources to help make it as easy as possible when the time to report on your grant project comes around:

  * Grant administration means keeping track of a lot of small details. This Grant Administration Heritage Bulletin<https://www.oregon.gov/oprd/OH/Documents/HB10_Grant_Admin.pdf> provides a brief overview of what to keep in mind. Don't forget to be transparent in your administration and keep your board involved. <https://www.oregon.gov/oprd/OH/Documents/HB37_BoardGrants.pdf>
  * Managing one of Oregon Heritage's grants? Keep in mind that all of the Grants Guidelines documents found on our Grants page<https://www.oregon.gov/oprd/oh/pages/grants.aspx?utm_source=OPRD&utm_medium=egov_redirect&utm_campaign=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.oregon.gov%2Foprd%2Fhcd%2Ffinasst%2Fpages%2Fgrants.aspx> have an administration or management section specific to each grant.
  * Main Streeters can prep for the opening of the 2025 Revitalization Grant. While the numbers in this document<https://www.oregon.gov/oprd/OH/Documents/PreppingOregonMainStreetRevitalizationGrant.pdf> are from 2023, the content for preparation remains evergreen.
  * Didn't get the grant you were seeking? Watch our 2018 video on Heritage Grant Writing<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GsU_wqmJJgg> for success or the Grant Writing Tips Bulletin<https://www.oregon.gov/oprd/OH/Documents/HB31_Grant_Writing_Tips.pdf>.

If you were not successful in receiving a grant this year, first of all, don't give up (easier said than done, right?)! Secondly, keep in mind the Oregon Heritage MentorCorps<https://www.oregon.gov/oprd/OH/pages/mentorcorps.aspx>. Applications for assistance are opening up July 1 and the cycle of mentor assistance is timed well with grant cycles that have a spring deadline. Mentors can provide guidance and advice on prioritizing projects, identify grants appropriate for identified projects, and review drafts of grant applications.

Succession Planning for Cultural Institutions
In 2023, members of 15 arts and cultural organizations participated in listening sessions supporting the Collections Stewardship Succession Planning Initiative, a joint effort by CCAHA and Lyrasis, funded by a Museum Leadership Grant from the Institute for Museum & Library Services. This input, along with insights from museum, library, and arts professionals across the country, has led to the development of tools and resources to support better succession planning for collections care and management roles at cultural institutions.
Join Michelle Eisenberg, Executive Director of CCAHA, and Tom Clareson, Senior Consultant for Digital & Preservation Services at Lyrasis, for a presentation on the findings of this report.
This webinar addresses Goal #3: Collections Sustainability of the Foundation for the Advancement in Conservation's (FAIC) Held in Trust Report<https://www.culturalheritage.org/docs/default-source/publications/reports/held-in-trust/held-in-trust-report.pdf> on Field Sustainability, Infrastructure, and Sector Health. It is part one of a multi-part webinar series on succession planning for cultural institutions.
Webinar Friday, June 28 at 9:00 AM PT. Learn more and register here<https://ccaha.org/events/succession-planning-cultural-institutions-part-one-research-findings>.

Applications now open for the 2024 Pacific Northwest Preservation Field School
The 2024 Pacific Northwest Preservation Field School will be held at Deception Pass State Park<https://parks.wa.gov/find-parks/state-parks/deception-pass-state-park>.
Applications are now open!<https://oregon.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_cZ2p7RCTQQldJYO>
Deception Pass is a strait separating Whidbey Island from Fidalgo Island in northwest Washington. It connects Skagit Bay, part of Puget Sound, with the Strait of Juan de Fuca. A historic bridge connects the two islands and the park includes land on both sides. The park has a wonderful collection of buildings and structures built by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in the 1930s, providing infrastructure for visitors coming to enjoy the rugged coastline and old-growth forest.
The Field School will address the complex issues related to the preservation of structures and landscapes developed by the CCC. Work will focus on a CCC built log and stone former comfort station (restroom). A preliminary list of projects to be addressed all three weeks includes log repair and replacement and window repair, reglazing and reconstruction. Additional topics may include historic landscape survey and maintenance workshops, stone repointing, and metal preservation. Field trips and evening presentations will fill out the three one-week sessions. Lodging and meals are provided.
The Field School is an inclusive learning opportunity open to all, whether you have previous preservation experience or not, whatever your age. You do not need to be a student or affiliated with the University of Oregon.
Learn more and apply here<https://archenvironment.uoregon.edu/hp/field-schools/pacific-northwest-preservation-field-school/2024-pacific-northwest-preservation-field-school>.
