Oregon Heritage Released 2024 Oregon Main Street Annual Report
Oregon Heritage just released the 2024 Oregon Main Street Annual report. A copy of the report can be found on the Oregon Main Street website: www.oregonmainstreet.org<http://www.oregonmainstreet.org/>.
The report highlights the collective impact of communities participating in the Main Street Track of the Oregon Main Street Network in 2024, including over $24 million in private sector investment, 168 net new businesses, 1,652 net new jobs, and over 293 building rehab projects. In addition, volunteers contributed almost 34,000 of volunteer hours to make their communities better places to live, work, shop, and experience. The cumulative impact since 2010 is also included in the report.
The report also features community spotlights on projects and activities happening on Main Street in Oregon including the HRVI building restoration project in Chiloquin which was a recipient of a $200,000 Oregon Main Street Revitalization Grant in 2022 and is nearing completion.
Currently, there are over 100 communities in Oregon participating in one of the different levels of the Oregon Main Street Network: Accredited Main Street, Designated Main Street, Affiliated Main Street, Connected Communities, or as part of one of the Rural Regional Main Street hubs. There isn't a fee to participate in the Oregon Main Street Network.
Oregon Main Street (OMS) is part of Heritage Programs in Oregon Parks and Recreation Department. OMS is designed to assist with the revitalization of historic downtowns and neighborhood commercial districts, promote economic development, and encourage historic preservation. The program uses an approach that advocates a return to community self-reliance, local empowerment, and the rebuilding of central business districts based on their assets, unique architecture, personal service, local ownership and entrepreneurship, and sense of community.

Metro and Lone Fir Cemetery Foundation host Qingming event at historic Chinese section of cemetery on April 5
Metro and the Lone Fir Cemetery Foundation are hosting an event in honor of Qingming (Tomb-Sweeping Day) at the historic Chinese section of Lone Fir Cemetery.
The event, which is free and open to the public, will take place on Saturday, April 5, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Participants will gather at the southwest corner of Lone Fir Cemetery in Portland, near the corner of SE Morrison St. and SE 20th Ave.
This area now appears to be a bare field, but it once held hundreds of gravestones as well as an altar and funerary burner when it operated as a Chinese cemetery within Lone Fir. Metro is now working with community to create a memorial at the site, scheduled to open by the end of 2026.
This event offers opportunities to learn more about Metro's and the LFCF's efforts around this memorial. You can also learn and engage around the history of Qingming, as well as around artistic projects focused on the site.
Portland-based artists Qi You<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__www.youqiartproject.org_&d=DwMFAg&c=euGZstcaTDllvimEN8b7jXrwqOf-v5A_CdpgnVfiiMM&r=CIxnZMR0nd-_TcchXGQpByHK-9iQix9x43JwxFhNOs0&m=LsCW1v1C3ddoV73_x2asyWw4bRshmK_6tDPusatqhyaH3T90QY-WfIjZwawladRl&s=Dq9Vm7yzoXGQgxXZ7ixxFK_RZZm65yIo2KQTk_OGpyQ&e=> and Sophia Xiao-fan Austrins<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__colloqate.org_&d=DwMFAg&c=euGZstcaTDllvimEN8b7jXrwqOf-v5A_CdpgnVfiiMM&r=CIxnZMR0nd-_TcchXGQpByHK-9iQix9x43JwxFhNOs0&m=LsCW1v1C3ddoV73_x2asyWw4bRshmK_6tDPusatqhyaH3T90QY-WfIjZwawladRl&s=hQZDZWHH59W5IxVFIDSQSM9380aE5rYcAtLUBjtq45I&e=> have been awarded funds from Metro to create art to enhance the memorial. They will present concepts for the future memorial's altar, seek feedback from community members, and lead an art activity for all to enjoy.
The Lone Fir Cemetery Foundation will present two student speakers, Lucas Zhang (Caitlin Gabel Academy) and Derica Theobald (Lincoln High School), to share insights from their research and film project centered on the site.
This event will also offer time and space to pay respects to ancestors and to honor the site's history.

Webinar - Shifting Perspective: Preservation in the Wake of Natural Disasters, April 9
National Trust for Historic Preservation, Preservation Leadership Forum
Shifting Perspective: Preservation in the Wake of Natural Disasters webinar
April 9, 11am PST
How do you preserve communities that have been devastated and damaged due to hurricanes, wildfires, and other natural disasters? Where does traditional preservation practice fall short in meeting the needs of neighborhoods facing displacement? What does heritage mean when the physical footprint is unquestionably altered? Join Preservation Leadership Forum for a webinar that will examine preservation practice in the wake of natural disasters. Focusing in on the work of preservation and community members in Asheville and Los Angeles (Altadena) this conversation will explore broader themes around community resilience, rebuilding, and the ever shifting question about what preservation looks like when the built environment is no longer there. Speakers from both communities will examine and converse how these recent events have impacted the way they see preservation practice, and what other communities should consider as they prepare for future natural disasters.
Introductory Remarks: Seri Worden, Senior Director of Preservation Programs
Moderator: Danielle Del Sol, Executive Director, Preservation Resource Center of New Orleans
Panelists: Adrian Scott Fine, President & CEO, Los Angeles Conservancy Hans Allhoff, Chair, Altadena Heritage Jessie Landl, Executive Director, Preservation Society of Ashville and Buncombe County Jack Thomson, Western Office Regional Director, Preservation North Carolina
