Hurley explore the influences and aesthetic ideals that evolved into the International Arts and Crafts movement in an encore presentation of their program “<SPAN style="mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt">The Visionary Aspects of the Arts and Crafts Movement</SPAN>” from 10 – 11:30 a.m., Nov. 12. Learn what inspired Arts and Crafts architects to unite their designs with nature and “bring the outside in” through structure and decorative details, and about the connections between <SPAN style="mso-bidi-font-weight: bold">Art Nouveau, Arts and Crafts</SPAN>, and “<SPAN style="mso-bidi-font-weight: bold">Jugendstil” </SPAN>art and architectural movements. </P>

Knighton (born December 25, 1864), designed buildings in Portland and the Willamette Valley for more than 30 years, including downtown Portland’s <SPAN style="mso-bidi-font-weight: bold">Governor Hotel</SPAN> and Salem’s <SPAN style="mso-bidi-font-weight: bold">Deepwood Estate</SPAN>. Clay will provide details about Knighton’s career from the post-Lewis and Clark Exposition building boom of the 1910s through his service as first president of the Oregon State Architect Examiner’s Board and his work as Oregon’s State Architect.</P>
