thru Nov. 10 at the Nicholson Library, Linfield College, 900 SE Baker St. McMinnville (</span><a href="http://www.linfield.edu/linfield-libraries/nicholson-info/maps.html" style="font-family: Garamond, serif;">map and directions</a><span style="font-family: Garamond, serif;">).

<p style="margin:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt"><span style="font-family:"Garamond","serif""><font size="3">The exhibit is the result of the collaboration between Linfield College and the Pacific City community. Pacific City is home to one of the most unusual fishing
fleets in the world, and one of the last of its kind. A dory fleet has been in the small coastal town for a century, with dory fishermen and women once numbering in the hundreds. Now the old-timers are passing on and the commercial industry is in decline.
Newcomers, however, are joining seasoned anglers in maintaining a robust sports fishing community.<o:p></o:p></font></span></p>

<p style="margin:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt"><span style="font-family:"Garamond","serif""><font size="3">In 2011, Linfield students and faculty began documenting the history of the Pacific City dory fleet to preserve a part of Oregon history. The project resulted
in an astounding 15,000 photos, 200 hours of audio and video and more than 1,500 artifacts. More than 100 dory fishers participated in interviews. The research project included an original production, “Kickin’ Sand and Tellin Lies,” scholarly papers, book
chapters, poster sessions and the visual art exhibit “Smooth Beaches and Flat-Bottomed Boats.” The exhibit features 18 panels that explore historical highlights, building a dory, fiberglassing and painting a dory, turning oars, Pacific City dories, dory derbies,
Dory Days, the Memorial Wall and Blessing of the Fleet, Yamhill County connections, launching and landing a dory and “The Launching through the Surf” project. <o:p></o:p></font></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: Garamond, serif;">The Oregon State Archives recently opened a new exhibit, featuring photographs of cemeteries around the state, and located in the lobby gallery of the Archives building. It is
open for viewing from 8 a.m. – noon and 1 – 4:45 p.m., Monday – Friday. <o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: Garamond, serif;">The images offer a look at the wide range of ways that people represent themselves and their loved ones in death. The exhibit shows cemeteries in diverse settings all around Oregon
– from farmland to deserts to mountains. Thirty-three photographic panels make up the exhibit and include descriptions about the image, show the location of the cemetery and gives information about the site. Senior Archivist Gary Halvorson took the exhibit
photographs while traveling the state conducting historical records surveys for the State Archives.
