<p class="MsoNormal">The Oregon Heritage Commission has scheduled its next meeting for 1 p.m. June 23 in Salem. The meeting will take place in Room 124A of the North Mall Office Building, 725 Summer St. NE. Its agenda includes approval of Oregon Museum Grants,
and other heritage topics.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">The Heritage Commission is comprised of nine people representing Oregon's heritage and geographical diversity who have been appointed by the Governor. There are nine advisory representatives from state agencies and statewide organizations.
The mission of the Oregon Heritage Commission is to secure, sustain, and enhance Oregon's heritage by ensuring coordination of heritage initiatives by public and private organizations; advocacy on its behalf; education of the public about its extent and value;
and promotion and celebration of its diversity.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Workshops designed to bring historic theaters back to life will take place this summer in Portland, Medford and LaGrande.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Topics to be covered include learning how to develop a market study, building community support, funding sources for theater restoration, case studies of successful theater revivals and a preservation toolkit.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">The workshops will take place June 21 in Portland, July 13 in Medford and July 25 in LaGrande. Each workshop will run from 9:30am to 4:30pm. Registration closes 5 days prior to each workshop. Scholarships to cover hotel costs are available
for those traveling a distance that necessitates staying the night. Scholarship applications are due at least 7 days prior to the workshop.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Gaiety Hollow and the Lord and Schryver Conservancy are seeking to hire a garden manager and curator at the historic home of the two landscape architects, Edith Lord and Elizabeth Schryver. The position provides the opportunity for the
garden manager to assume a leadership role in restoring the garden while also overseeing its maintenance. The garden manager will represent the garden to the public and will participate in developing educational programs as Gaiety Hollow becomes a cultural
and educational center for the community. The ideal candidate will have the ability to understand the aesthetic intention of the garden and the capacity to guide hands-on restoration, maintenance and interpretation of the garden. To apply, email a cover letter

<p class="MsoNormal">The National Park Service announces the release of Douglas Deur’s book, “Empires of the Turning Tide: A History of Lewis and Clark National and State Historical Parks and the Columbia-Pacific Region.”<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">“Government reports are typically housed on agency bookshelves and at a few federal depository libraries. This thoroughly researched book is written in an engaging style that will appeal to casual readers as well as students and researchers.
We wanted to make sure it was widely distributed,” said Lewis and Clark National Historical Park Superintendent Scott Tucker.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">A research professor in Portland State University’s Department of Anthropology, Deur serves as the primary academic researcher working with the National Park Service to document the cultural heritage of western parks. He is also a multigenerational
resident of the Columbia-Pacific region, bringing his own personal knowledge and stories to “Empires of the Turning Tide.”
