<p style="margin:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt"><span style="font-family:"Verdana",sans-serif">Last week Oregon Heritage staff invited those doing heritage work in Oregon to participate in what we cheekily called the “Oregon Heritage COVID-19 Commiseration Call”.
 The goal was to provide a mechanism to talk about what’s going on so folks did not feel alone and could connect and brainstorm with a network. We learned a lot on that call but we think overall it was good to connect with folks. During the call we heard from
 three heritage organizations what they are doing right now and what they see as future issues to manage.

<p style="margin:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt"><span style="font-family:"Verdana",sans-serif">Michelle Cordova with Willamette Heritage Center discussed staff limited to a skeleton crew but that the board voted to apply for the payroll protection program. The
 board reached out to donors asking for support during this time and they had some good responses to that. Volunteers really wanted to get back in there and help so they developed boxes of projects and organized times that volunteers could pick up the projects
 and do them at home. They decided to really ramp up their social media presence during this time and even expanded the number of social media outlets they are using. They are trying to organize some social distance online learning opportunities. She has a
 goal to revise the budget and they have to take into account event rental shortages for this year and the uncertainty of being able to hold large gatherings.

<p style="margin:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt"><span style="font-family:"Verdana",sans-serif">Bill Gates with Southern Oregon Historical Society said their biggest challenge is not necessarily the payroll, but rather taking care of bills for the assets they have.
 SOHS has two historic sites, Hanley Farm and a building in downtown, and a warehouse full of artifacts. The most immediate issue they are facing is trying to replace a tenant in one of their buildings and the challenge of doing that during social distancing
 protocols and also paying things like insurance and the bills. They have not yet laid off staff but that discussion is evolving. One of their issues is that they were just getting some momentum and now they have to put their plans on hold, which hits the morale
 of those involved. They are working on getting their programs online and ramping up their social media presence.

<p style="margin:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt"><span style="font-family:"Verdana",sans-serif">Kevin Teater with Beaverton Downtown Association agrees that losing momentum was a big issue in Beaverton as well. Awesome things were starting to happen and the community
 was getting engaged and then it all came to a screeching halt. They are organizing video calls with stakeholders to ask them how they are doing and also organized calls with other Main Street managers to see what they are doing in their downtowns. They are
 helping businesses with social media, getting stores online, and organizing delivery services. They are also trying to do some behind the scenes look via social media.
