<p class="MsoNormal">The Western Archives Institute will be held virtually from <b>
July 6 - July 16, 2021</b>. The Western Archives Institute is an intensive, two-week program that provides integrated instruction in basic archival practices to individuals with a variety of backgrounds, including those whose jobs require a fundamental understanding
of archival skills, but who have little or no previous archives education; those who have expanding responsibility for archival materials; those who are practicing archivists but have not received formal instruction; and those who demonstrate a commitment
to an archival career.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The Institute also features a diverse curriculum that includes history and development of the profession, theory and terminology, records management, appraisal, arrangement, description, manuscripts acquisition, archives and the law, photographs,
preservation administration, reference and access, outreach programs, and managing archival programs and institutions.

<p class="MsoNormal"><b>Principal Faculty Member</b><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Joshua Kitchens has agreed to serve as Principal Faculty Member. Kitchens is the Director of the Clayton State Archival Studies program, where he teaches a variety of courses that cover archival topics including Digital Preservation, Law
and Ethics, Appraisal, and various special topics courses. He previously served as an Archivist for Special Collections at the Georgia College Ina Dillard Russell Library. There he was responsible for digital collections, the library's institutional repository
known as the Knowledge Box, and the university archives. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">He holds a BA in history from Georgia College, an MA in Applied History from George Mason University, and a Masters of Archival Studies from Clayton State University. Joshua is currently working on a Ph.D. in public history at Georgia State
University. He is also a certified archivist and serves on the Examination Development Committee for the Academy of Certified Archivists. Currently, he is researching appraisal practices and representation/access of archival collections and public records.<o:p></o:p></p>
