<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:12.0pt">In fact, we at Oregon Heritage are so supportive of organizations telling their volunteers how valued they are, that we decided to up our giveaway game for this Summit. Attendees to the Summit will be entered
 in a giveaway for a chance to win several $250 mini-grants for a volunteer appreciation activity. What could you do with this mini-grant? Anything that appreciates your volunteers! Maybe buy them some swag, sent them some flowers, buy and mail thank you cards,
 organize an event for them with some food and beverages, so many things you could do with this $250 as long as it helps you value and appreciate your volunteers. Don’t worry, we can help you come up with an awesome idea.

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:12.0pt">A report released by the Oregon Heritage Commission in 2020 demonstrates that the work volunteers do within heritage organizations is indispensable to the preservation of Oregon’s heritage. In fact, most heritage
 organizations are operated primarily by volunteers. The world clearly saw the impact the pandemic had on volunteer programs across the nonprofit field and building back these critical stakeholder groups is key to continuing to carry out the mission of heritage
 organizations across the state. Join us April 27-28 as have facilitated conversation around community engagement and how that impacts volunteer strategies, panel discussions hearing from fellow volunteer managers and volunteers, and a practical workshop to
 help you engage, retain, and value volunteers in a way that impacts both the volunteer and the organization in meaningful ways. The entire Summit is virtual and will occur online via Zoom.

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:12.0pt">The Institute of Museum and Library Services announced today that Oregon Jewish Museum and Center for Holocaust Education, OJMCHE, is among 30 finalists for the 2023 National Medal for Museum and Library Service.
 OJMCHE is the only institution in Oregon to be selected as a finalist for this award.<o:p></o:p></p>

<i>Oregon’s Intangible Heritage: Supporting the Preservation of Legacy Businesses</i><b>–</b>a vital part of Restore Oregon’s commitment to pursuing new and diverse historic preservation programming for Oregonians statewide. The report lays the groundwork for
 more inclusive and responsive preservation practices in support of our state’s diverse stewards of cultural resources by outlining a program initiative for historic businesses in Oregon.

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:12.0pt"><b>Historic small businesses continue to be lost at an alarming rate
</b>around the country and an immediate response is crucial to reduce the loss of places that serve as cornerstones of many communities. The current landscape for historic preservation emphasizes the built environment, with a  particular focus on architectural
 heritage. While these efforts have seen success in architectural preservation, they are not geared toward historically significant businesses—especially excluding those that do not occupy historic buildings. 
<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:12.0pt"><b>Our study takes a deeper look at the needs of legacy businesses</b>, with additional focus on those that are BIPOC (Black/Indigenous/People of Color)—owned, and what a more concerted effort to preserve them
 might look like. Oregon’s legacy business base is significant with approximately 30,000 active registrations for businesses older than 20 years, 27% of which are BIPOC-owned. Through in-depth research and outreach,
<i>Oregon’s Intangible Heritage</i> offers a clear analysis of current legacy business assistance programs, a summary of our data and outreach, and recommendations for establishing a statewide legacy business program with special emphasis on supporting those
 owned by the BIPOC community.  <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:12.0pt"><b>Recommendations include establishing a statewide Legacy Business Resource Center</b> with regional offices and a two-pronged approach for services and grants tailored for business owners who rent their place

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:12.0pt">T-Mobile has partnered with Smart Growth America and Main Street America to offer the Hometown Grant program. This program will award up to 100 towns a year with project funding up to $50,000 each. The program
 focuses on revitalizing community spaces in towns with 50,000 people or fewer, which can include renovating historic spaces, improving public amenities and access, creating new community spaces, and more. Project proposals are due March 31.
