Very sad.
Thoughts and prayers to all who knew Kendell, especially his widow Tammie who not only lost her husband, but their home as well.

Subject: [HistoricCemeterieslistserv] Phillips' death is loss for Historic Cemeteries Commission
Oregon Parks and Recreation Department sorrowfully recognizes the
passing of Kendell Phillips of Cave Junction, a member of the
department’s Oregon Commission on Historic Cemeteries. Phillips was
killed Friday morning in a house fire.
“Kendell was exactly the kind of person we wanted on the
Commission,” said Tim Wood, director of Oregon Parks and Recreation
Department, which provides staffing to the Commission. Phillips
conducted research, contributed to position papers and educational
materials, hosted a Commission meeting in Cave Junction and made
connections with local cemeteries.
Since being appointed to the Commission in March 2008, he served as
chair for one year and vice chair for two years. Phillips was recently
appointed to a second term due to his exemplary service.
Phillips began his cemeteries interest in 1979 when began working with
his mentor on an extensive cemetery census project. Sixteen years later,
the documentation was complete and he began publishing the information.
Several local historians recommended that he serve on the Commission.
“He brought that same joy, interest, sense of humor, and dedication
to the Commission,” said Kuri Gill, the Commission coordinator. “His
knowledge and participation on the commission will be missed. Our
condolences go out to Kendell’s widow Tammie, his family and friends,
his Grange colleagues and the community he served. ”
An account has been established at the Washington Federal branch in
Cave Junction to support Tammie, whose house was a total loss. To give,
note that the donation is in honor of Kendell Phillips.
