HPLO Rebrands As RESTORE OREGON
The Historic Preservation League of Oregon (HPLO), the 36-year-old non-profit known for championing the restoration of Crater Lake Lodge, its annual list of Oregon’s Most Endangered Places, and popular Mid-Century Modern Home Tour, announced today that it is changing its name to Restore Oregon. The re-branding is part of a push by the organization to expand its base and save more historic places.
According to Executive Director, Peggy Moretti, the change was made to:
· Avoid confusion of the organization with the Oregon Historical Society.
· Communicate the goal of the organization with energy and clarity.
· And most importantly, better convey the forward-looking relevance of its work, and address misconceptions that “historic preservation” opposes progress.
“We were constantly running up against the perception that historic preservation is about freezing things in time. Nothing could be further from the truth!” says executive director, Peggy Moretti. “Restore Oregon is all about livability, sustainability, and economic revitalization on Main Street. We’re about saving great places that are packed full of our history, local materials and craftsmanship, and restoring them for new uses. Rehabilitating existing buildings creates more jobs dollar-for-dollar than new construction and this work is transforming communities.”
The organization’s core programming will not change. However, advocacy efforts to improve Oregon’s financial incentives for historic rehabilitation will ramp up in the months ahead.
