Hope this Newsletter finds everyone well and ready for warmer weather and all the events and activities that spring and summer bring to the Rogue Valley.
Marker Cleaning Workshops - Our Marker Cleaning Workshops resume on Saturday, April 20 from 9:00 a.m. to 12 noon. This is a very worthwhile and fun volunteer project helping to clean and protect these works of art for future generations to appreciate and enjoy. We meet by the Sexton's Tool House at the top of the Cemetery Road where you will find parking available. All the necessary tools and supplies will be provided. Dress for the project as you may get a little wet. We suggest bringing a stool to sit on, a hat to wear, and sunscreen. There is no workshop in May as we are busy preparing the cemetery for the Memorial Day Holiday. Marker Cleaning will resume on Saturday, June 15, and the third Saturday of each month through September 21.
Coming in May - Saturday, May 11 History Saturday in the Cemetery programs resume at 10:00 a.m. and will continue on the second Saturday of the month through August 10. The topic of the May program is "From a Gold Town to a Trading and Business Center" Also returning in May is our popular Tuesday Evening Cemetery Strolls. The May 14 stroll which starts at 6:30 p.m., will focus on some of the cemetery's Mysteries and Myths. Both of these programs are free and no advance reservations are required. Meet your docents at the top of the cemetery road where parking is available. Donations are always appreciated and help support our work in caring for Jacksonville's Pioneer Cemetery. The Tuesday
Strolls will take place on the second Tuesday of each month though August 13.
Please mark your calendars for our Community Cemetery Clean-up Day on Saturday, May 18 from 8:00 a.m. to 12 noon. Help us prepare the cemetery grounds for Memorial Day and visiting family and friends. Bring gloves to wear, gas operated weed eaters, blowers, mowers, rakes and pruners. Morning refreshments and coffee will be offered along with our gratitude and appreciation.
Please visit our web site for complete details at: http://www.friendsjvillecemetery.org/
Best Regards and hope to see you at one or more of these events and activities.
Dirk
