To Oregon Mortuary & Cemetery Board Licensees:
OMCB would like to share recent updates regarding the current COVID-19 situation and its impact on our industry.
Executive Order 20-12:
In collaboration with a number of licensees, board members, Oregon Funeral Directors Association (OFDA) & Cemetery Association of Oregon (CAO), OMCB has compiled a collective list of questions and concerns regarding the interpretation and application of Governor Brown's Executive Order 20-12<https://www.oregon.gov/gov/Documents/executive_orders/eo_20-12.pdf> (Stay Home, Save Lives), which provides broader direction limiting retail business operations, and social distancing measures for other public and private facilities. We understand that this order significantly impacts funeral & cemetery operations and can be challenging to apply to our industry without specific guidance. In an effort to obtain clarification, OMCB (in coordination with industry partners) has drafted a list of specific questions and talking points related to how death care licensees can comply with this Executive Order.
This has been sent and is currently being reviewed by Governor's Liaison Office. We anticipate a prompt response and will disseminate any additional guidelines provided as soon as we receive it.
Emergency Response:
OMCB has communicated with Emergency Managers in an effort to obtain information and direction that can be share with licensees relating to local resources.
Each county has its own resource request process, so here is a link to all county emergency management agencies<https://www.oregon.gov/oem/Documents/locals_list.pdf> in Oregon. Once funeral home managers/owners have done their due diligence and are still unable to acquire needed supplies (i.e. PPE), we've been told that it's appropriate for them to reach out to their local emergency management office and determine how to submit a resource request.
In Multnomah County, the Office of Emergency Management accepts and processes resource requests 7 days a week. The form and instructions for filling out a resource request can be found here: https://multco.us/em/multnomah-county-resource-request-form.<https://multco.us/em/multnomah-county-resource-request-form> Each county will be different, so it would be beneficial to contact your local emergency management office.
We will continue to provide more information as it becomes available.
