Interesting story of Henry Dosch, buried at River View Cemetery

The Oregon Commission on Historic Cemeteries is working to share more cemetery stories. These are posted on the Oregon Heritage Exchange<https://oregonheritage.wordpress.com/2021/06/17/the-story-of-henry-dosch-born-june-17-1841/> blog and shared via Facebook. Commissioner Reed, from Portland, helped the commission create a collaboration with Multnomah County Library to share stories from their collections and connect them to Oregon's cemeteries.

The first installment<https://oregonheritage.wordpress.com/2021/06/17/the-story-of-henry-dosch-born-june-17-1841/> from the library is about Henry Ernest Docsch and his family, whose papers are housed at the library. His interests and knowledge of horticulture was widespread and influential; most notably he introduced a hardier English Walnut into the state, and served as Oregon Superintendent of Horticulture for multiple terms. Thanks to Jim Carmin, John Wilson Special Collections Librarian for this interesting article.

Earlier this month Cemetery Connections: Fannie Fairchild Arbogast<https://oregonheritage.wordpress.com/2021/06/04/cemetery-connections-fannie-fairchild-arbogast/> was posted. It is a reflection by Commissioner Silbernagel about her experience with the stories of the Ritter Cemetery. This is a wonderful example of the cemetery as a place for community history.
