Oregon Heritage Vitality Study Update - Statewide workshops in April

In January the Oregon Heritage Commission launched the 2024 Oregon Heritage Vitality Study. This study will help us understand the current state of the heritage sector in Oregon, highlighting key issues that impact the sector, and provide recommendations at the local and state level to address collective needs and challenges. Learn more about the background of the study here including the original 2011 study and subsequent outcomes based on the recommendations.

The first phase of the study was a survey distributed in January-February for anyone doing heritage preservation work in Oregon. A huge thank you to all that responded to the survey (and it was a long one so again, thank you!). We had over 250 responses from across the state and across all the heritage preservation disciplines and interests.

Right now, we need your help to guide the recommendations that will be included in the Study and we will be having workshops across the state in April to help gather that information. During this interactive workshop, we’ll share an overview of the key issues you helped us identify through the Vitality Study Survey earlier this year and then brainstorm changes and resources that would better support your work. This is your chance to influence the tools and policies that will shape the heritage sector in Oregon over the coming years.

There will be 5 workshop options around the state of Oregon based on your location for you to choose to attend. All workshops will include the same content and agenda, just in different locations to ensure regional inclusion. If none of these work for you, we will also hold a virtual workshop option as well, however we would appreciate as many attendants during our in-person participation if possible! Light refreshments or a light lunch will be provided. Here are the workshop options:

   - Coos Bay Workshop on Monday, April 8th at 3pm, Coos History Museum, 1210 N Front St, Coos Bay, OR 97420
   - Medford Workshop on Tuesday, April 9th at 10am (virtual option available), Rogue Valley Genealogical Society, 3405 S Pacific Hwy, Medford, OR 97501
   - Virtual Online Workshop on Tuesday, April 16th at 12pm
   - Forest Grove Workshop at the Oregon Heritage Conference on Friday, April 19th at 10:30am, Forest Grove Library (Note: you do not need to register for the conference to attend the workshop BUT check out the conference info here if you want to consider registering for all conference events.)
   - Hood River Workshop on Thursday, April 25th at 3pm, Location TBA
   - La Grande Workshop on Friday, April 26th at 12pm, Location TBA

*Some site locations for workshops are TBA so please register if you are able to make a workshop in that vicinity and we will email locations to registrants when they become confirmed
