Three cheers to Cascade AIDS Project and HIV Alliance for being funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for the next five years under the CDC's new HIV Prevention cooperative agreement for community-based organizations! The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is awarding approximately $210 million, over 5 years, to 96 Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) to implement program components that follow the pillars (Diagnose, Prevent, Treat, and Respond) of the Ending the HIV Epidemic in the United States<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/t.emailupdates.cdc.gov/r/?id=h4a735051,1456d2e0,145743c1&ACSTrackingID=USCDCNPIN_167-DM60673&ACSTrackingLabel=CDC*20Awards*20HIV*20Funding*20to*2096*20Community-Based*20Organizations*20(CBOs)__;JSUlJSUlJSU!!OxGzbBZ6!NsODqbQ2mqLqHDLajX1GqNQotDi1dl8P8ByGNmXMaAW7WHmZcxw938zwWbLSg7896KGXWV1sk-pd$> (EHE) initiative. This new funding -approximately $42 million in fiscal year 2021 -was awarded through CDC's Division of HIV/AIDS Prevention (DHAP) under its PS21-2102 "Comprehensive High-Impact HIV Prevention Programs for Community Based Organizations" program.

The funding will help CBOs develop new -and enhance existing -strategies focused on populations disproportionately affected by HIV, which include gay and bisexual men who have sex with men (MSM), people who inject drugs (PWID), and transgender people. A minimum of 75% of clients served must also be from a racial or ethnic minority.

For over 30 years, CDC has directly funded CBOs that primarily serve racial and ethnic minority populations to help close gaps in access to HIV prevention services. With this new CBO cooperative agreement, CDC builds on its ongoing commitment to partnering with CBOs in communities most affected by HIV. CBOs are uniquely positioned to complement and extend the reach of HIV prevention. CBOs have the credibility and experience within their communities to ensure that HIV prevention efforts reach individuals who could benefit most from them.
