The Multnomah County Health Department, Harm Reduction Program currently has two openings for full time, union represented, Community Health Specialist 2 positions. We are seeking candidates with knowledge and understanding of African American/Black or Native American/Alaskan Native culture, traditions, attitudes, beliefs and history.

The most important attributes that someone have for this role are: true joy and enthusiasm for working with people, a belief in and understanding of the harm reduction approach when working with people who are using substances, and connections to the community.

Community Health Specialists on our team are responsible for providing syringe services, naloxone distribution and possibly (with provided training) HIV/STI/Hepatitis C testing services at our indoor and outreach locations. Community Health Specialists will also be responsible for providing outreach, engagement, education and support to other community service providers with a focus on BIPOC communities in our region.

Pay Range: $25.25 - $30.92 Hourly
Hours: Monday - Friday, Relief Shift
(Work hours may vary to meet population or service needs. Typically between 9am - 10pm)

Minimum Qualifications/Transferable Skills:

  1.  Education/Training: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade AND
  2.  Experience:  Two years of experience in community outreach services providing health information, advocacy, social support and assistance in using the health care system to groups and families; AND experience working with the community being served
  3.  Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA): African American or Native American/Alaskan Native culture.
  4.  BLS / CPR certification is required and will be provided by the County within 90 days of hire.
  5.  Phlebotomy, specimen collection, rapid testing Certification may be required and will be provided by the County.
  6.  Driver's license and ability to drive a large van.
