Syndemic Webinar Series


Join the Oregon Primary Care Association and the Oregon AETC for a three-part webinar series designed for primary care providers and support staff in Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs). This series uses a harm reduction lens to address the syndemic of HIV, HCV, syphilis, and substance use in primary care settings, equipping providers with the latest tools and strategies to enhance patient care and outcomes.

In this activity, an expert discusses how to adapt HIV treatment for people with substance use disorders, exploring barriers to management, effective communication strategies, coordinating care with mental health and substance use treatment providers, and guideline recommendations for developing HIV care plans.
Educational Objectives
After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to:
· Describe barriers to effective HIV management (including screening, prevention of transmission to others, and treatment) for PWH impacted by substance use disorders, including the negative impact attitudes about substance use in society have on healthcare equity.
· Implement effective communication strategies to engage PWH in open, stigma-free dialogue about sexual health and substance use to elicit accurate information about barriers to care and risk of transmission to others.
· Coordinate HIV care with mental health and substance use treatment providers to improve overall well-being and enhance engagement in HIV care for PWH with substance use disorders.
· Apply current evidence and guideline recommendations to develop HIV care plans that are patient focused to improve retention in care, promote treatment adherence, and prevent transmission of HIV through sexual activity or sharing drug equipment.
Audiences
This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of HIV care providers, primary care providers, and general practitioners involved in the care of patients with HIV.
