Elevate Mpox Awareness and Education in the LGBTQ Community
The ongoing incidence of mpox cases in the United States—particularly in vulnerable communities such as those with advanced HIV, intersecting health vulnerabilities, the LGBTQ population, and communities of color—highlights the continued need for focused health interventions.
To address this need, the National Coalition for LGBTQ Health<https://default.salsalabs.org/Tf9cc1abd-5e44-4387-9966-c0503294f7f1/1cbe14b9-865d-4e32-a486-4f67a67ae50f> (the Coalition) has launched a call for applications to receive funds from a grant program to elevate mpox awareness and education for LGBTQ individuals and for the community networks where mpox risk exists. This program seeks to enhance health equity by providing critical information, improving public health preparedness, and fostering community-based partnerships.
With your participation in this collaborative effort, we will provide materials that focus on education and access to health services, ultimately reducing health disparities and improving outcomes for marginalized communities.
Description of Funding Opportunity
This program is administered by the Coalition and funded by Bavarian Nordic, Inc., and is designed to:
· Support mpox disease awareness and education through outreach and the use of materials in community settings, programs, and digital spaces;
· Promote trusted mpox information and related resources across networks, community programs and events, gatherings, and social media; and,
· Strengthen partnerships that connect people to mpox vaccination and scheduling through coordination with clinics, health departments, and community providers.
These activities are part of broader efforts to routinize mpox considerations into HIV and STI services to sustain uptake, strengthen reimbursement streams, and normalize vaccine access.
Focus Populations
Priority populations of focus include those persons or communities who may be at increased risk of mpox in the U.S. or Puerto Rico. This program specifically focuses on LGBTQ individuals and communities most impacted by structural barriers to mpox prevention—especially communities of color, trans and nonbinary individuals, people with uncontrolled or advanced HIV, and those with intersecting health vulnerabilities.
Eligible Organizations
U.S. or Puerto Rico based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations, which provide programs and support primarily to priority populations of focus (additional details can be found in the recipient requirements section), will be prioritized.
Project Timeline / Funding Period: January 19, 2026 to August 31, 2026.
