Two New Opportunities to Learn and Engage with Health Department Colleagues
NACCHO's STI HIV Syndemics Team is recruiting for two peer-to-peer sharing and technical assistance opportunities for local health departments (LHDs). One is focused on scaling up point-of-care testing for syphilis/HIV and the other is focused on applying syndemic approaches to prepare and respond to outbreaks of HIV, STI, and viral hepatitis. Both will start in January 2026 and more information about each is below.
Local health departments can apply for both opportunities if staff have adequate capacity to meaningfully participate in both.
Syphilis+ Point-of-Care Testing Learning Collaborative
NACCHO is recruiting up to 20 health departments to participate in a Learning Collaborative to build capacity to implement or expand point-of-care testing in their community. Applicants should be actively planning to implement or expand use of point-of-care syphilis/HIV testing in a new or innovative community setting (e.g., jail, emergency department, mobile unit, encampment).
The Learning Collaborative sessions will be used to brainstorm and problem-solve with the goal of increasing POCT use (implementation and/or expansion) in LC participants' communities. As a group, the LC will identify challenges/barriers to initiation or expansion, and tools or approaches to overcome them. They will also share successes/facilitators to support the development of tools or approaches to replicate them in other communities.
Eligibility and Expectations
The Learning Collaborative is open to all health departments, but priority may be given to jurisdictions looking to initiate the use of POCT rather than expansion of testing. HDs can select a single person or a team of 2-3 to participate. Participants will attend an in-person meeting in February 2026 and then 4 virtual sessions between March and July 2026. Active participation is expected, which includes:
* Attend and enthusiastically participate in Learning Collaborative meetings (including the in-person meeting)
* Share your local context, goals, challenges, and successes
* Provide feedback and exchange strategies with peers
* Complete brief "homework" between sessions (e.g., discussing priorities or pitfalls with others at your LHD; identifying policies, regulations, laws that impact POCT use in your jurisdiction).
If you are interested in participating in the Learning Collaborative, please complete this interest form<https://us-east-2.protection.sophos.com/?d=mmsend.com&u=aHR0cHM6Ly9uYWNjaG8ubW1zZW5kLmNvbS9saW5rLmNmbT9yPXhGMnB1Vm96cWs4d0RGa2RJVnFUWXd-fiZwZT1vVmJrZklMLUlGNGxrSXlOTmtQNDE1OGNpSHg1STg1ZmoxVGdNUUxVWWktS0hScHlRQ3kyTkdKU1RBTHc5Mi1LcU9oaEh1OWY3UGppMlZJSlVZT255d35-JnQ9OTAxWEJFZWRhQ3VuZzdKVEtNQnQzZ35-&p=m&i=Njc2NDJjN2RkNWUyYTg3NzEyMmMwZTdh&t=OElONjI2SEw2OFNGZ0NvRzdVaGxmamRhYkJlaStCWFZVdjEyc2x4eW5SZz0=&h=d7c66dde700d4b5fb1ea118d7f8f72f4&s=AVNPUEhUT0NFTkNSWVBUSVZbWA3NKD9Wzh_K79-yTpYH4qy0dz7TZP_oiKoCiTTG4Q> by COB on Monday, December 1, 2025. Syndemic Community of Practice
NACCHO is recruiting 10-15 local health departments (LHDs) to participate in a limited-time community of practice (CoP) to build capacity to apply a syndemic approach to outbreak preparedness and response for HIV, STIs, and viral hepatitis.
CoP members will participate in approximately 6 monthly calls between December 2025 and July 2026. These sessions will involve presentations from LHDs that have responded to recent outbreaks and both informal and structured opportunities for peer sharing and strategizing. Participants will leave the CoP with concrete tools, practical strategies, and tailored plans they can apply directly in their jurisdiction.
Eligibility and Expectations
The CoP is open to all LHDs. LHDs can select a single representative or teams of two to three staff to participate in the CoP. Participants must include staff with a role in planning or implementing HIV, STI, and/or hepatitis outbreak preparedness and response efforts. CoP members are expected to commit to six months of active engagement, which includes:
* Attend and actively participate in six virtual CoP meetings
* Share your local context, goals, challenges, and successes
* Provide feedback and exchange strategies with peers
* Complete brief "homework" between sessions (e.g., discussing priorities for your LHD with a colleague or at a team meeting, reporting back to the CoP on progress)
Complete this brief form<https://us-east-2.protection.sophos.com/?d=mmsend.com&u=aHR0cHM6Ly9uYWNjaG8ubW1zZW5kLmNvbS9saW5rLmNmbT9yPXhGMnB1Vm96cWs4d0RGa2RJVnFUWXd-fiZwZT1za3NFdUtVcEsyTWoxWGt1LUZpNld4cmpEQlVTOVR0QlJmdkViakxvSERpVnlqMWdEckJnSkFrdU1vQy1CTTZ3aHNJcklQT2Z4VllCZFFvR0JXQkVjUX5-JnQ9OTAxWEJFZWRhQ3VuZzdKVEtNQnQzZ35-&p=m&i=Njc2NDJjN2RkNWUyYTg3NzEyMmMwZTdh&t=ZHNqQ0M4SDUxU1BkZjFxb0IyMTVzWU9lem9HazdEUVRUbWJWeUtVaGdRND0=&h=d7c66dde700d4b5fb1ea118d7f8f72f4&s=AVNPUEhUT0NFTkNSWVBUSVZbWA3NKD9Wzh_K79-yTpYH4qy0dz7TZP_oiKoCiTTG4Q> to express your interest in joining the CoP by end of day Monday, December 1st. Contact Kat Kelley (kkelley at naccho.org<mailto:kkelley at naccho.org>) with any questions.
_______
*Myriad factors, including but not limited to epidemiology, can inform whether and how a jurisdiction formally declares an outbreak. Consequently, NACCHO will allow LHDs to define their jurisdiction's experience or risk for an outbreak, on their own terms, in the Interest Form.
