the co-location of comprehensive navigation services at harm reduction programs.</span></span><o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="elementtoproof"><span style="font-size:13.0pt;color:black">Participating project sites, based at eight syringe services programs around the country, successfully demonstrated the transformative effect that patient navigation and compassionate, harm
reduction-based engagement can have for criminalized and marginalized people. During the two-year project, patient navigators worked with more than 1,150 participants and documented more than 1,000 connections to testing and care for hepatitis C and HIV and
to evidence-based treatment for substance use disorders. Project sites also documented navigation to emergency and long-term shelter, health insurance, personal identification</span><span style="font-size:13.0pt"> services<span style="color:black">, and nutrition
programs. The project period coincided with the COVID-19 pandemic and the widespread closure of medical and social services, and the</span> selected<span style="color:black"> navigation programs became instrumental in providing health information, personal
protective equipment, and support in accessing care to SSP participants. Sites also shared valuable lessons, experiences, and feedback in real time with NASTAD and CDC partners over the course of the project, informing public health guidance and technical
assistance related to comprehensive drug user health and COVID-era approaches for health departments, harm reduction organizations and SSPs, and other partners.</span></span><o:p></o:p></p>
