Hey Folks.
Since the training date is approaching, I'm resending this notice about a free course from the USGS Washington Water Science Center, Using the FLOwPER mobile application for collection of flow/no flow field observations. Please share this information widely with your natural resource colleagues that work for Tribes, since they are the target audience for this session. Stay tuned for information about other FLOwPER training sessions this summer, as those plans are finalized.

The attached email provides a bit more background information on FLOwPER and how these important field observations fit into a broader effort to greatly improve the mapping of our streams and our understanding of their flow permanence status.

Best.

Subject: Reminder to register (by June 10) for USGS TESNAR Training for FLOwPER mobile application: rapid flow/no flow observations of streamflow

Hello,
Resending this to folks and also sending to new folks. Please register at the link below by June 10 to help with planning. This training could be useful tracking streamdrying this coming summer.

As part of the USGS TESNAR* program, we are announcing a free course available from the USGS Washington Water Science Center, Using the FLOwPER mobile application for collection of flow/no flow field observations.

This course will provide training in the FLOwPER mobile application, which is a mobile application for rapid data collection of visual observations of surface water presence/absence in streams. The accurate mapping of streams and their streamflow conditions in terms of presence or absence of surface water is important to both understanding physical, chemical, and biological processes in streams and to managing land, water, and ecological resources.

Training objectives

  1. Introduce and describe the FLOwPER field form and resulting database of observations
  2. Train individuals to accurately collect FLOwPER data in real-world field conditions,
  3. Evaluate FLOwPER data for quality assurance/quality control purposes,
  4. Provide an understanding of how FLOwPER data may be useful for relevant land and water resource management decisions.

Who this training is for

Natural resource staff working for Tribes are the target audience for this training. Please share this announcement with any colleagues who may be interested.

Dates and details

The training format will include a virtual seminar and companion field component.

Virtual seminar: July 8 and July 9, 2024, 10am-noon both days. Participants only need to attend one virtual seminar.

Field component: July 10, 11, 12. Depending on interest, we will provide an on-site field component for individuals to

  * practice using the FLOwPER app,
  * experience data collection and troubleshooting, and
  * learn how to evaluate data once it has been collected.

The location(s) of the field component will be determined based on interest.
