The Policy, Data and Analysis Division is excited to announce our new director for the Climate Office:
Suzanne Carlson.

Carlson joins us from Tennessee DOT, where she served as director of the Multimodal Division since 2019. In that role, she managed transit and active transportation for the state and developed its Statewide Active Transportation Plan.

Prior to serving the state, she managed the Transportation & Sustainability Program for Innovate Memphis, a local non-profit, developing policies to strengthen transit, active transportation and shared mobility in the city.

Carlson also brings experience from the climate change policy realm: she worked on the City of Chicago’s Climate Action Plan and implemented a similar plan for Chicago Public Schools. Earlier in her career, she was a proud founding member
of Bike Works Seattle, a nonprofit for accessible and affordable bicycling around the Emerald City (her hometown).

Carlson’s career is built on partnerships and collaboration across organizations and between people. She’s stitched together plans between cities, drafted policy deals, and worked with engineers, planners, and climate change advocates (and
skeptics) to find balanced and pragmatic solutions.

“Suzanne brings a wealth of knowledge and experience with her to the Climate Office and ODOT,” said Amanda Pietz, administrator of the Policy, Data and Analysis Division. “She’ll be leading a great group of folks in challenging, exciting,
and necessary work.”

Carlson joins the office at an exciting time. The team will unveil the new Climate Action Plan this month, they’re making steady progress on the agency’s greenhouse gas emissions inventory, and they just applied for a federal grant to help
bolster Oregon’s EV charging infrastructure. Learn more about their work and how it relates to the agency’s priorities in this
