Subject: [IWRS] DRAFT Recommended Actions for Oregon's Integrated Water Resources Strategy

Good Morning,

The IWRS Project Team is pleased to bring you a draft set of recommended actions as the next step in developing Oregon's Integrated Water Resources Strategy. You can access the document by clicking on and downloading the PDF (IWRS Draft Recommended Actions <http://www.wrd.state.or.us/OWRD/LAW/docs/IWRS/2011_06_23_IWRS_Draft_Actions_All_Bulletins.pdf> [PDF 7.46MB]), or by visiting the IWRS project website, where you can download and print the document in its entirety or as individual sections: http://www.wrd.state.or.us/OWRD/LAW/Integrated_Water_Supply_Strategy.shtml.

The document contains a brief introduction and an invitation to participate in this process. It also contains a series of 12 bulletins, each with some background information, draft recommended actions, and a list of online resources for additional information on the topic. The 12 bulletin topics are as follows:
Bulletin 1: Understanding Oregon's Water Resources / Supplies
Bulletin 2: Understanding Oregon's Out-of-Stream Needs
Bulletin 3: Understanding Oregon's Instream Needs
Bulletin 4: The Water-Energy Nexus
Bulletin 5: Climate Change
Bulletin 6: The Water and Land-Use Nexus
Bulletin 7: Water-Related Infrastructure
Bulletin 8: Education and Outreach
Bulletin 9: Funding
Bulletin 10: Place-Based Approaches
Bulletin 11: Water Management
Bulletin 12: Ecosystem Health and Public Health Needs

The document concludes with a one-page summary, containing all of the draft recommended actions at-a-glance.

We encourage you to take this opportunity to offer your thoughts and suggestions on this draft list of recommended actions. The recommended actions reflect the themes and issues heard during the 2010 Open House events, stakeholder workshops, Advisory Group meetings, and online surveys. As you think about the issues currently facing your community, consider the following questions:
1. Would these specific actions help to address such problems?
2. Are there other recommended actions that would be more effective in your community? Please elaborate.
3. Are there recommended actions on this list whose unintended consequences (side effects) would outweigh the benefits? Please elaborate.
Please send your responses directly to the Project Team at waterstrategy at wrd.state.or.us<mailto:waterstrategy at wrd.state.or.us> or mail to: Attn: Water Strategy, c/o the Oregon Water Resources Department, 725 Summer Street N.E., Suite A, Salem, Oregon 97301. Responses are needed by Wednesday, August 31, 2011.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me through waterstrategy at wrd.state.or.us<mailto:waterstrategy at wrd.state.or.us> or by phone: 503-986-0911.
