Updates on Oregon's Integrated Water Resources Strategy
Good Morning,
Here are four important items for your consideration:
1. Policy Advisory Group Meeting. The Policy Advisory Group meeting has been rescheduled to take place on Thursday, January 31st from 1:00 to 4:00 pm here at the Water Resources Department, located in the North Mall Office Building at 725 Summer St., NE in Salem (Room 124). An updated agenda is attached. This meeting is open to the public.
2. Evaluation of Oregon's Stream Gaging Network (Open File Report, Nov. 2011) is now available online.
The stream gaging network in Oregon was last formally evaluated in 1970 by the U.S. Geological Survey. Significant changes to both water management and scientific related needs have occurred since this last evaluation. The Oregon Water Resources Department decided to undertake a formal evaluation of the gaging network to determine if it is meeting current OWRD data needs. The evaluation related to water management, specifically distribution of water by the state, has been completed and is now available online. Click here<http://www.oregon.gov/owrd/PUBS/docs/reports/SW_2011_001_Stream_gaging_network_evaluation.pdf> to access the report.
3. IWRS Project Video is now available online.
The Project Team, with assistance from the Association of Oregon Counties, recently put together a 20-minute video describing the process to develop the Strategy. The video also includes a brief discussion of some of Oregon's water-related challenges, and highlights recommended actions that will be the focus of implementation over the next few years. The video is available on the project website and through the IWRS YouTube Channel. Click here<http://www.oregon.gov/OWRD/pages/law/integrated_water_supply_strategy.aspx#Other_Resources> to access the video.
4. Update of Oregon's Water-Related Permitting Guide.
The State Water-Related Permits User Guide was originally developed in 2008 by the Water-Related Permit Process Improvement Team (WRPPIT), a consortium of eight state agencies involved in water-related activities and permitting. The Guide was updated in 2012 as part of the Integrated Water Resources Strategy (Recommended Action 2.e.). Its purpose is to provide a comprehensive, yet simple reference for regulatory and non-regulatory programs that influence permitting of projects in wetlands and waterways. Click here<http://www.oregon.gov/DSL/PERMITS/Pages/swrp_userguide12_06.aspx> to access the guide.
The Project Team will periodically update the website with resources that relate to implementation of the Strategy's recommended actions.
Thank you for your continued interest and support. Please let me know if you have any questions.
- Alyssa
