[kids-lib] Friday, December 5th Shoutout

Hello folks,

Happy Friday! It's hard to believe we only have three Fridays left this year! I had the chance to take some leave at Thanksgiving and then promptly got sick, which was a little sad, but also, I had a good chunk of time to rest, which was good. I was able to come back to work a couple days ago but still have some unread e-mails so I apologize if I owe you a reply - please know I'm working through the inbox!

Before the holiday, my colleague Jen Maurer shared this article about librarians and rest<https://librarianbyday.net/2025/11/06/the-7-types-of-rest-librarians-actually-need-and-how-to-get-them/> with our Library Support team. I've been thinking a lot about it, especially about the ways we care for ourselves and each other in library work. Some of the suggested strategies are things I do already, like building in time between meetings to ensure a break before diving into the next thing on the list. Other suggestions made here are things our libraries definitely need to work on putting in place, and are things we can't do alone, only in collaboration.

This month is often so busy, with a lot happening, a lot to do, and a lot of expectations from a lot of folks! I'm really thankful I had some time off to recharge before we dive into December. I sincerely hope wherever you are at work, you and those you work with every day are able to find some good ways to rest this month, even amidst the busyness.
