It is with a feeling of great enthusiasm that I would like to take this opportunity to announce the results of the 2010 CSD Mock Caldecott Workshop, sponsored by the Children’s Services Division of the Oregon Library Association and Multnomah County Library.

Roughly 35 individuals, comprised of librarians, authors and educators, participated in the event held at the Springfield Public Library on Saturday December 5th. Attendees learned all about the Caldecott process from last year’s Caldecott Committee Chair Nell Coburn and Suzanne Harold, member of the 2010 Caldecott Committee. Following a crash course in judging the art of picture books vis-à-vis the ALA Caldecott criteria, participants broke into small groups to discuss a list of potential 2010 Caldecott contenders, pulled together by Multnomah County Library staff.

After a series of lengthy and heated discussions, ballots were cast for the most distinguished picture book for children, the 2010 CSD Mock Caldecott award.
