<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt">The Summer Food Program reported at a meeting I attended last week that participation in the free summer lunch program is up 10% this year compared to participation last year at this time. This morning on
Oregon Public Broadcasting’s morning news there was a piece that did a great job describing the problem getting eligible hungry youth to participate in the summer food program. One of the key factors for getting youth to participate in the summer food program
is providing activities and programs. Many summer food programs don’t have the money or resources to provide activities or program, this is a gap that libraries can and are filling! As you know, youth must eat food to get the energy they need to read and learn.

winners, the Oregon College Savings Plan also sponsors a KATU media partnership and a summer reading performer at legally established public libraries serving fewer than 10,000. Libraries with winners receive $500 to spend on their next summer reading program.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
