Hi Jennifer,

This report might be helpful to the accreditation work group. The main interesting findings start on page 3 of the Executive Summary.

Lessons of Public Health Department Accreditation

The accreditation of public health departments is expected to strengthen the nation's public health system. To discover how states are preparing for a national voluntary accreditation program, the North Carolina Institute for Public Health was awarded a grant from the Public Health Law Research Program to produce Legal Frameworks Supporting Public Health Department Accreditation: Key Findings and Lessons Learned from Ten States. Among other lessons learned, the researchers found that developing successful state accreditation programs includes:

 * Collaboration between state and local health departments
 * Ongoing education and awareness building
 *   Legal technical assistance support
 *   Piloting accreditation standards
