Resources to Help Health Departments Prepare for National Accreditation
Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB) to Launch Accreditation Program This Month
Despite the critical role public health departments play in keeping our nation safe and healthy, there has never been a national standard to ensure that the services they provide are of the highest possible quality-until now. The Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB)-with partnership and support from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)-has developed a national voluntary accreditation system to advance the performance of all local, state, territorial and tribal public health departments in the United States.
PHAB will commemorate this groundbreaking initiative with a special event on September 14 at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. To assist the many health departments that have begun or will soon begin preparing to apply, RWJF has compiled a set of resources developed by some of the nation's leading public health associations and preeminent researchers to inform and advance accreditation efforts.
