Dear colleagues:

The Oregon library community lost a fierce champion on December 29th when George Bell died. George was on the State Library Board from 1988 to 1995 and served as Chair of the Board in 1991-92 and
1994-95. George was an Honorary Life Member of OLA and was active in the Intellectual Freedom Committee and the Legislative Committee. His obituary is in today's Statesman Journal http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/statesmanjournal/obituary.aspx?n=george-bell&pid=177162203&fhid=7982 details his many other accomplishments and it includes information about the celebration of life and opportunities for memorial donations.  George also wrote a blog called Polwatch<https://georgehbell.wordpress.com/> which I would recommend taking a look at to get a feeling for the intellect and passion of the man.

I will miss him.
