Thursday, March 13 (12:00 - 3:00 pm PT): AI and Libraries: Literacy, Ethics, and Responsible Use<https://www.library20.com/ai-and-libraries-3?mc_cid=ce080fe0cf> (Library 2.0)
We invite librarians, educators, technologists, and thought leaders to explore the critical role that libraries can play in addressing both the opportunities and ethical challenges of AI. From encouraging digital literacy and ethical awareness to guiding the responsible use of AI, libraries are potentially at the forefront showing how emerging AI technologies can be used equitably and responsibly in their communities.

We will explore actionable insights to help navigate the complex ethical questions relating to AI and the unique role of libraries and librarians in addressing them. We will discuss practical strategies for integrating AI tools into library and education settings using ethical best practices while empowering users with the knowledge and skills needed to thrive in an AI-driven world. And we’ll focus on how libraries can not only adapt to this rapidly changing landscape but can also act as catalysts for knowledge diffusion, shaping a more informed, and innovative future for all of our users.

This is a free event, being held live online and also recorded. REGISTER HERE<https://www.eventbrite.com/e/library-2025-ai-and-libraries-literacy-ethics-and-responsible-use-registration-1111810197229?aff=oddtdtcreator> to attend live and/or to receive the recording links afterward.

Book displays are a fun, creative marketing technique that any library can use. Learn how to create book displays that will draw readers in and help them to find those titles that don’t get enough attention.

March 12: Back to Basics: Building Strong Community Partnerships
Partnering with community can be a great strategy for the Public Library. Identifying the needs of community and then partnering with the correct resource can be a win-win solution for patrons and others. There is no need to recreate the wheel and there are significant benefits involved for the library and the community partner. In this webinar we will look at the foundational principles of creating and sustaining impactful community partnerships.

March 19: Customer Service: Ten Basic and Essential Skills
Customer service skills generally consist of the knowledge, processes, expertise and the understanding that are needed to make customers as satisfied as possible. These skills are developed through several different avenues, including training, support and experience. There are generally two different types of these skills: people and technical. Both types of skills are equally important and good customer service is the ability to combine a good balance of both skill sets to provide the best experience possible.

March 26: Back to Basics: Reference Skills
Are your reference skills ready for a refresh? Join us for a practical and engaging webinar designed for librarians and library staff who want to sharpen their foundational reference abilities.

Recordings of PCI Webinars are available the following week after the live event in the Oregon Library Staff Academy<https://my.nicheacademy.com/oregonstaff> in the PCI Webinars section<https://my.nicheacademy.com/oregonstaff?category=20549>; access is limited to Oregon library staff, volunteers, board members, and Friend and Foundation members. Tuesday, March 25 (12:00 – 1:00pm): Cultivating Community Hubs for Social Connection<https://www.webjunction.org/news/webjunction/healthy-places-by-design.html> (WebJunction/Healthy Places by Design)
Community hubs are places where people of all backgrounds can gather to socialize, learn and work together, and develop trusting relationships. Community hubs can make it easier to feel a sense of belonging. Often, people think about community centers, parks, and schools as community hubs, and they certainly are. Many other community spaces and organizations can also serve that role—even those initiated for other reasons, like libraries and YMCAs. In this session, you’ll hear how the Wilmington (DE) Institute Free Library and the Greensboro (NC) YMCA expanded their missions and purposefully expanded beyond the walls of their buildings to create intergenerational and cross-neighborhood connection opportunities that reduce social isolation and increase a sense of wellbeing. Their experiences can inspire other organizations to serve as community hubs, as well.

Register here<https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_fMFkoRLwRSigo9jEiBVTTw#/registration> for the webinar; additional information<https://www.webjunction.org/news/webjunction/healthy-places-by-design.html> is available at the WebJunction website.

After the webinar, participants can join a post-webinar discussion group from 1:00 - 2:00 pm PT to reflect on the key insights and discuss how they can apply these strategies in their own communities.

IN-PERSON FACILITATION TRAINING
Since 2024, Oregon Humanities has presented trainings for staff, board members, volunteers, and program partners of Oregon libraries of all types (public, academic, school, and tribal). These trainings help people involved with libraries strengthen their skills in leading conversations about vital issues and ideas across differences, beliefs, and backgrounds.

Using the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence as a jumping off point, participants will learn about facilitation and reflective conversation, practice new skills and techniques, and learn to design and facilitate conversations that allow people and groups to learn more about themselves and others. These trainings and other programs are part of Oregon Humanities’ work called “Beyond 250”— “This semiquincentennial of the nation provides an opportunity to reflect on our complex founding and history, lift up under-told stories, and appreciate diverse perspectives about the past, present, and future of our nation.”
