AT YOUR LEISURE:
Pre-recorded webinars to view at your convenience

Soft Skills: The Tools Every Librarian Should Have<https://my.nicheacademy.com/oregonstaff/course/36747> (Niche Academy)
Being a successful librarian means more than knowing how to catalog, read a MARC record, or find resources for a student writing a paper. It means having soft skills that fill in gaps when theory and technical knowledge don’t answer patron questions or tell you how to be a team player. Soft skills often speak to personality or character or the way a person works – things that are not necessarily definable or even measurable. In reviewing job postings, the soft skills librarians should have cover the ability to be a team player, collaborate, adapt to change. Librarians need to have interpersonal and communication skills, be organized and courteous. In this course, Melissa Lockaby will address some of the knowledge, skills, and abilities that aren’t covered in a classroom, why they are important, and how they can make you a better librarian.

Fighting for the First Amendment: Anti-book banning training series<https://www.everylibraryinstitute.org/anti_book_banning_training_series> (EveryLibrary Institute)
America needs people like you to stand up and fight against the extremist groups who are banning books across the country. You might not know this but librarians, as government employees, can't often legally fight against the book bans happening in their community. Their jobs and careers are often threatened, they're attacked publicly, or the municipal attorneys advise them against taking any action. That means that they need people like you to stand up and push back against the well organized groups who are fighting to deny your right to read and control information in your community. That's why we created this webinar series to help people like you stand up against the book banners. Visit: https://www.everylibraryinstitute.org/anti_book_banning_training_series

Living Room Conversations: Connecting Your Library Community Through Conversation<https://programminglibrarian.org/learn/living-room-conversations-connecting-your-library-community-through-conversation> (Programming Librarian)
Living Room Conversations are a simple, easy, and effective way to bring your community together through community conversations and civic dialogue programming. Living Room Conversations offers a plug-and-play library program that allows both small and rural as well as large and urban libraries to hold community conversations on a wide range of topics. This webinar will guide participants through the Living Room Conversations dialogue model and offer examples of how libraries across the country have brought their communities together to engage in thoughtful, respectful, and transformative conversations.

Super Searchers and Meet LEO webinar series<https://www.ala.org/pla/initiatives/informationliteracy/supersearchers> (PLA and Google)
The ease with which misinformation can be created and spread online endangers everyday discourse—and libraries are uniquely suited to help counteract its negative effects. Google has created a new set of tools for evaluating material found online, making it easier to think critically about the veracity of digital information right at the point of search. New this year are additional tools to help library workers guide parents, caregivers and educators in safely navigating online with their children. Library consultant Toby Greenwalt demonstrates the capabilities of Super Searchers and Meet LEO and showcases potential applications in the library workspace.
