[Libs-Or] The Yasui Family: An American Story Opens Friday at OHS; Press Tour June 12 at 9am

I hope you are well and staying cool during this Oregon heatwave!

This Friday, the Oregon Historical Society will open our newest original exhibition The Yasui Family: An American Story<https://www.ohs.org/museum/exhibits/the-yasui-family-an-american-story.cfm>, which examines relevant questions about citizenship, immigration, and belonging through the lens of one Oregon family. I have had the opportunity to take a sneak peek, and I can't understate how powerful this exhibition is - and how important, especially in the current moment.

Our executive director Kerry Tymchuk sums up the exhibition perfectly: "The history of the Yasui family is both unique and similar to the experiences of other immigrants to the United States, and it truly reflects the complexity of the American story. All of us at OHS are very grateful that the Yasui family has entrusted us with their compelling collection of family history, thereby allowing us to share an incredibly timely story of the rights and responsibilities of American citizenship."

While the exhibition debuts on Friday, we are fortunate that Yasui family members Barbara Yasui and Maija Yasui will be offering a press tour on Thursday, June 12 at 9am. Please let me know if you can attend; Barbara and Maija live outside of Portland, so this is a great opportunity for an interview directly with a member of the Yasui family.
