At the end of a very dry winter and the start of an unusually warm spring, many folks are worried about what the future holds. We know that disasters can strike at any time, and any action you can take to prepare today will help your library respond and recover more effectively.
The Oregon Department of Emergency Management<https://www.oregon.gov/OEM/Pages/default.aspx> (OEM) is hosting a free, two-part webinar series called "Rural Communities Prepared for Disasters" that starts this month:
* Preparedness and Response from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22nd
* Recovery and long-term support from 10 am to 12 p.m. on Wednesday, May 13.
These webinars are for anyone interested in helping rural communities prepare for and respond to disasters such as floods, extreme heat and wildfires. Registration is free and open now.<https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_RCJ3EwltRNy7E-nfDoRm_w?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTAAYnJpZBExU2J3eUg2U2prS1luY3Q0OHNydGMGYXBwX2lkEDIyMjAzOTE3ODgyMDA4OTIAAR6uEIJD-0CzjLFNI1F4AYpnlDPbc7zzWB5HKKu9XpaWvIt0pB7NWEHGwm6Aag_aem_UUgfzJt7YRPEbyrI7Tq6Vw#/registration> More information is available on the OEM website. <https://apps.oregon.gov/oregon-newsroom/OR/OEM/Posts/Post/Rural-Disaster-Preparedness-Webinar-Series>
If, like me, you'll be at the OLA/PNLA Conference for the first webinar, please note that both will be recorded and shared on the OEM Youtube channel.<https://www.youtube.com/@Be2WeeksReadyOregon>
Additional resources<https://libraryrecovery.org/resources/> are available from a recent IMLS funded project in California. Recovering Together<https://libraryrecovery.org/> shares how Northern California libraries strengthen communities before, during and after disasters, and offers one-pagers with practical tips to Prepare, Respond and Recover. Please note that beyond these one-pagers, this is very California-specific information.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks,
Wendy
