<p><strong>Workshop description:</strong><br>
Pharmacology questions are complex and intimidating. This workshop will teach
you how to effectively handle questions and find information concerning drugs
and their usage. Topics to be covered include: <o:p></o:p></p>

     mso-list:l0 level1 lfo1'>how to identify the various names and codes that
     can be used to refer a specific drug<o:p></o:p></li>
 <li class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;
     mso-list:l0 level1 lfo1'>the concept of pharmacologic actions and how
     these can be used to help answer questions<o:p></o:p></li>

     mso-list:l0 level1 lfo1'>how to break down a question into the specific
     aspects of a drug's identity, usage, regulation, and economic potential. <o:p></o:p></li>

<p>This training will also review print and electronic drug information
resources available to librarians and the general public, and identify the
strengths and weaknesses of each one to answer the specific aspects mentioned
above.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p>Workshop participants will receive 4 Medical Library Association continuing
education contact hours that can be applied to a Consumer Health Information
Specialization - <a href="http://www.mlanet.org/education/chc/" target=1>http://www.mlanet.org/education/chc/</a><o:p></o:p></p>

<p><strong>Presenter:</strong><br>
Andrew Hamilton is a Senior Reference & Instruction Librarian at the Oregon
Health & Science University Library. Prior to joining the OHSU Library
staff in 2002, he was an Online Analyst for six years with the National
Training Center & Clearinghouse (NTCC) at the Middle Atlantic Regional
Medical Library, where his primary duty was to travel the U.S. and teach
PubMed. He has also spent three years as a Clinical Medicine Information
Specialist in the Reference Department of the New York Academy of Medicine
Library. Andrew has earned two BS degrees in Microbiology and Biology/Genetics
from Oregon State University and earned his MLS degree as part of a Drug
Information Specialist Double Master's Program, graduating from St. John's
University with a dual MS - Pharmaceutical Sciences/MLS degree.<o:p></o:p></p>
