<P><FONT SIZE=2>This is great news and I"m pretty sure it's because the seven member delegation talked to his staff yesterday. Please send both Wyden and Merkeley thanks-yous (email or phone call) for signing the Dear Colleague. This budget, this letter is the only chance that LSTA will be increased at all meaning more grant money for Oregon libraries. We are one of the few states to get two senators signing.<BR>

I know that a number of you had contacted Sen. Merkley about signing this<BR>
but it just was not happening. Now I see that he has finally signed. Maybe<BR>
our delegation at National Legislative Day was able to convince him.<BR>

This is a tough budget year. After passing the stimulus package, only a<BR>
select few programs will receive an increase in FY 2010. LSTA and the<BR>
Improving Literacy Through School Libraries Program are in serious danger of<BR>
receiving level funding, or possibly even a cuts, if we don't have 60<BR>
signatures on the letter. Please contact your Senator NOW!<BR>

The letter is addressed to the Senate Labor, Health and Human Services and<BR>
Education Appropriation Subcommittee and requests that the Senate include<BR>
$300 million for the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) and $100<BR>
million for the Improving Literary Through School Libraries program for FY<BR>
2010. It has come to our attention that Senate offices have been told this<BR>
request is considered an earmark. We have been assured by Appropriations<BR>
Committee staff this is not the case.<BR>

Please CALL your Senators and let them know that this letter is an absolute<BR>
