Have you seen this offer? I just ordered one for the Siletz Library and Nancy wrote me back and said to share this message with everyone.

Subject: [member-forum] Video Magnifiers: Assisting Patrons with Low Vision
To: member-forum@ala.org

I am now collecting names of libraries who do not have a video magnifier or who
are in need of a new one. I will then work with a corporate sponsor to
purchase one for each library on the list.

A video magnifier, also called a CCTV, is an electronic magnifier which enables
people with low vision to see to read and write.

There are an estimated 21.2 million Americans living with low vision. As the 9
million baby boomers continue to age, this number is expected to grow
substantially.

Many people living with vision loss cannot afford to purchase their own video
magnifier. Unfortunately, many libraries also do not have the funding to
purchase this technology.

I spoke with Satia Orange in the Literacy and Outreach Services department at
the ALA office on May 28. She sent this info out to her list so you may have
already heard of this opportunity.

However, if you have not heard of this yet, please be informed that you may add
your library's name to this list at this time.

To be included on this list, please send me an email stating that, if funding
can be secured, your library patrons would benefit from having a video
magnifier available to them at your library.

Please include the following information:

Contact person's name
Name of your library
Address
Telephone #
Email address

You may send this info to me by email, phone, or fax.

nancy@AmazingVideoMagnifiers.com
Direct: 512-301-3887 (Austin, TX)
Toll-Free: 866-733-5157 (voice mail only)
Fax: 888-277-2573 (Toll-Free)

To watch a short video about what a video magnifier can do, visit
http://www.AmazingVideoMagnifiers.com
and click on "Watch video."

Please feel free to forward this information to other librarians you know who
may be interested. You may also copy and post this info on your blog, social
networking sites, or send to other email discussion groups.

Though I am not a librarian, I am an ALA member and a library patron who will
be forever grateful to the librarian who first introduced me to this
technology.

My hope is that, once your library receives this technology as a gift, you will
seek media coverage to inform people with low vision in your community about
this valuable resource now available to them at your library.

They will no longer have to depend on someone else to read to them. It is
truly a gift of independence.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about this project.

Sincerely,

Nancy Shugart
nancy@AmazingVideoMagnifiers.com
