The <span class="highlighted">Research</span> <span
 class="highlighted">Interest</span>
<span class="highlighted">Group</span> </span><span
 style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: "Verdana","sans-serif"; color: rgb(31, 73, 125);"><font
 color="#333333">has been formed to</font> </span><span
 style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: "Verdana","sans-serif";">facilitate
communication and discovery between institutions, providing a forum for
discussion and development of collaborative <span class="highlighted">research</span>
on all aspects of library work. <br>
<br>
The objectives of this <span class="highlighted">group</span> include:
1) Helping
each other learn how to do better <span class="highlighted">research</span>
and
2) Making more efficient use of our collective resources, thus
advancing our
individual <span class="highlighted">research</span> <span
 class="highlighted">interest</span>s
more quickly. Pursuing these two major objectives has the additional
benefit of
providing the qualitative and quantitative data necessary for improved
assessment and advocacy.<br>
<br>
Results from our collaborative research would be open and shared for
others’
benefit. <br>
<br>
Potential collaborations include (but are not be limited to): </span><o:p></o:p></p>
<ul type="disc">
  <li class="MsoNormal" style=""><span
 style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: "Verdana","sans-serif";">Finding
examples of cooperative research utilized elsewhere.</span><o:p></o:p></li>
  <li class="MsoNormal" style=""><span
 style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: "Verdana","sans-serif";">Comparing
existing data between institutions (e.g. web logs).</span><o:p></o:p></li>
  <li class="MsoNormal" style=""><span
 style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: "Verdana","sans-serif";">Seeking
grant support to fund research activities.</span><o:p></o:p></li>
  <li class="MsoNormal" style=""><span
 style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: "Verdana","sans-serif";">Listing
people’s expertise in various domains and available institutional
resources. </span><o:p></o:p></li>
  <li class="MsoNormal" style=""><span
 style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: "Verdana","sans-serif";">Division
of fees among participants to develop high quality measures (cheaper
and higher quality end product than everyone creating measures
individually). </span><o:p></o:p></li>
  <li class="MsoNormal" style=""><span
 style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: "Verdana","sans-serif";">Utilizing
the same measure at different institutions (results illustrate each
institution’s uniqueness). </span><o:p></o:p></li>
  <li class="MsoNormal" style=""><span
 style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: "Verdana","sans-serif";">Utilizing
different measures for the same question. Results indicate the
strengths and weaknesses of different measures.</span><o:p></o:p></li>
  <li class="MsoNormal" style=""><span
 style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: "Verdana","sans-serif";">Drawing
upon expertise within consortial institutions: information about
conducting research, the study body, or other topics of interest to the
group (e.g. how or when to do an IRB proposal). </span><o:p></o:p></li>
</ul>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span
 style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: "Verdana","sans-serif";">Flexible
research groups determine areas of interest and conduct research topics
in
rotation – e.g. one year focus on collection development research, next
year on
user services and the following year on the web.  Depending on
institutional needs we could focus these studies in different library
domains
(instruction pre/post test, web site usability testing, collection
development
analysis and more). <br>
