project like Oregon Health Go Local is filled with many challenges and
rewards. One of our biggest rewards was having the opportunity to publicly
share and celebrate project accomplishments at our launch party held in early
May. A crowd of roughly seventy people including a number of project
volunteers attended the event. It was nice to connect with the folks who
helped bring Oregon Health Go Local to fruition. We were fortunate to have a
number of distinguished speakers. Don Lindberg, M.D., Director of the National
Library of Medicine; Neil Rambo, Acting Director of the National Network of
Libraries of Medicine PNW Region (NN/LM PNR); Gail Kouame, Consumer Health
Coordinator NN/LM PNR; Yvonne Williams, Oregon State Library Board of Trustees
Representative and Chris Shaffer, OHSU Library Director all shared thoughts and
told stories about Oregon Health Go Local. Emily Ford, Oregon Health Go
Local’s Project Director provided a short demonstration of the new resource.
Tasty food and beverages were provided compliments of the <a
href="http://www.ohsu.edu/library/ohsla/">Oregon Health Sciences Libraries
Association</a>. Overall, the event was a fun way to revel in the projects
early success. It is our hope that as the project grows and evolves, we will
have continued success and cause for further celebrations. <o:p></o:p></p>

<p class=MsoNormal>In 2004 NLM announced the development of <a
href="http://www.medlineplus.gov/golocal">MedlinePlus Go Local</a> and called
for proposals to become a Go Local site. I was very excited about this
project and sent in a proposal that was accepted. Unfortunately, a grant proposal
to LSTA was denied, and we had to set aside our hopes of becoming one of the
first Go Local sites. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal style='text-align:justify'>The idea sat simmering until in
2007 Todd Hannon took up the project. This time the LSTA grant proposal
was accepted and additional funds were granted through the NLM. We were
extremely lucky that Emily Ford applied for the position of project director,
as her enthusiasm and energy convinced others that this was a valuable project. We
were also lucky that we had early supporters in <a
