President Obama met yesterday with a group of students at Graham Road Elementary School in Falls Church, Va., and announced that he will be asking Congress for $1.35 billion to extend Race to the Top. Race to the Top is an education program that came out of last year’s $787 billion stimulus and offers grants to states and local school districts that change their policies to emphasize performance rather than simply receiving federal money every year regardless of student performance.

The White House also announced that the President will give his first State of the Union Address to Congress on January 27, and he will submit his budget to Congress on February 1.
