--
District Dispatch has posted a new item, 'Call your U.S. Senator to get school
librarians into the “Keep our Educators Working Act of 2010”'

Legislation is expected to be introduced tomorrow morning in the U.S. Senate
that will provide $23 billion in aid to help school districts hire and retain
educational professionals. Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) will introduce this bill.

While librarians are not specifically mentioned in this bill, school librarians
will be able to receive some of this funding. However, it has been our
experience that if libraries are not mentioned in legislation, they will not
benefit.

Please call your United States senator’s office today and ask him or her to
include libraries into the “Keep Our Educators Working Act of 2010” and
then urge him or her to co-sponsor this legislation. Please make sure that
when you speak with your senator’s office that you express the important role
school libraries play in the education of a child and that if school libraries
are ignored in this bill, many schools will lose their librarian.

Jeff Kratz
Assistant Director, OGR

You may view the latest post at
