The North Bend Public Library is a dynamic, community-focused
municipal library located in North Bend, Oregon, on the
beautiful southern Oregon coast. It is dedicated to promoting
the enjoyment of reading and culture, responding to the
community's need for information, and enriching quality of life
for its patrons. Library staff also encourage and teach people
about new technologies and ways of accessing information,
particularly emphasizing the use of open source software. The
library enjoys a very supportive advisory board, Friends group,
and Foundation.<br>

The library serves approximately 17,000 people, who annually
check out nearly 250,000 books, DVDs, audiobooks, ebooks, and
other materials. The library is a crucial source of public
Internet access and electronic information, with over 100,000
Internet sessions logged last year by residents and visitors
alike on the library's computers and via its free wireless
network. It is in a well-equipped, dedicated 24,852 square foot
building.<br>

NBPL is one of eight public libraries in the larger Coos County
Library Service District. Libraries is the district enjoy a
shared catalog, courier system, myriad online databases,
outreach services, and much more. Coos County has easy access to
beaches, parks, and many outdoor recreational activities. All
eight public libraries, including NBPL, have stable funding from
the county taxing district.<br>

<b>Job description</b><br>
The North Bend Public Library seeks an enthusiastic Assistant
Library Director who is passionate about public library service.
The Assistant Library Director, in cooperation with the
Director, staff, and volunteers, manages all public and backroom
operations of the library and performs a leading role in
providing reference and reader's advisory services. S/he also
regularly assists patrons both inside the library and out with
understanding and using library services and information
technology.<br>
<br>
The individual in this position must enjoy working with people
of all ages, have excellent customer service skills, and the
ability to supervise staff and volunteers. The position
supervises a staff of 10 FTE (18 people) and reports to the
Director of Library Services.<br>
<br>
Job responsibilities include:<br>

<li><font color="#000000">Providing direct service to adults and
children at busy public service desk;</font></li>
<li><font color="#000000">Providing reference and reader's
advisory services;</font></li>
<li><font color="#000000">Developing print, reference,
audiovisual, and electronic collections for adults and young
adults;</font></li>
<li><font color="#000000">Handling customer service matters;</font></li>
<li><font color="#000000">Assists the public inside and outside
the library with use of library materials, computers,
services, and consumer technologies such as e-readers and
smartphones;</font></li>
<li><font color="#000000">Training staff in operation of
computers and online databases;</font></li>
<li><font color="#000000">Publicizing library programs and
services for adults;</font></li>
<li><font color="#000000">Designing and maintaining the library
website and staff intranet;</font></li>
<li><font color="#000000">Assisting the Director of Library
Services in designing and implementing all library policies
and procedures;</font></li>
<li><font color="#000000">Supervising and evaluating public and
technical service staff.</font></li>
</ul>

This position is full-time, 40 hours per week. Some evening and
weekend hours are required. The library is open seven days a
week September - May and Monday - Saturday in the summer. This
is a non-unionized, exempt position.<br>

<br>
<b>Qualifications</b><br>
</font>
<ul>
<li><font color="#000000">Master's degree in Library and
Information Science from an ALA-accredited program, or
completion of the MLS program with degree by time of
employment.</font></li>
<li><font color="#000000">Three years public library experience,
preferably with supervisory and management experience.</font></li>
<li><font color="#000000">Knowledge of and experience in public
library practices, planning, and trends.</font></li>
</ul>

<b>Compensation</b><br>
Opening salary ranges from $42,536 to $48,339, depending upon
qualifications. The position also enjoys medical, dental, and
vision insurance, enrollment in the Oregon Public Employee
Retirement System, and vacation benefits.<br>
