Discover how libraries can benefit by moving to the cloud and what role librarians can play when staff and student applications become hosted. The session discusses the implication of hosted computer applications and resources on school library programs and
the role of the school librarian. What are the advantages of moving to a "hosted" school library catalog and circulation system? How can school librarians themselve take advantage of GoogleApps and similar cloud-based productivity tools? And what roles can
the school librarian play when a school adopts a program like GoogleApps for Education?
In this era of unprecedented school reform, librarians can thrive as embedded professional development (PD) leaders. Adult learners bring a wealth of background skills, interests, and experiences (Early and Bubb 2004). Unlike the one-shot, one-size-fits-all
workshops of the past, today’s PD considers time, setting, circumstances, pedagogical choices, and level of formality for customized PD. We will discuss several PD models, exploring together how we can improve our schools from the inside out.
Have you always wanted to be on a YALSA book selection committee but couldn't bring yourself to dedicating a full year to reading? Participants in this preconference will get a taste of the selection committee action! Together, we'll evaluate dozens of YA
books, explore the styles and themes of YA fiction through recent years, and make educated guesses on which titles will have staying power. The goal is to pick the one book that will have staying power and be read 45 years from now in the year 2057! Why 45
years? <span style="font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"">The Outsiders is still being widely read and it was written in 1967.
Participants will receive a list of the books to be discussed in advance. Registration is required. Light refreshments, handouts and certificate of completion included with registration. Please note: to participate in this workshop, you do not need to be registered
