the possibility that libraries who offer services for the elderly
may also be mandatory reporters of elder abuse per 124.050. In
defining "public official", that statute says: "(L) Any public
official who comes in contact with elderly persons in the
performance of the official’s official duties." If a library
offers, say, outreach to an assisted living home or services for
homebound patrons, that may be enough to trigger mandatory
reporting. I don't believe that's a change to that statute,
though; the definition was already there.<br>
