<p class="MsoNormal">I am excited to announce the official release of the <a href="http://readersfirst.org/ReadersFirst-Guide--Library%20E-Book-Vendorsv6.pdf">ReadersFirst Guide to Library E-Book Vendors</a>. It has been posted on the ReadersFirst
<a href="http://readersfirst.org">website</a> with an accompanying <a href="http://readersfirst.org/PressRelease--ReadersFirst-Guide-to-Libraries-Jan-8-2014.pdf">
press release</a>. <o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">It was no easy task for our Working Group members to put this Guide together, from creating and ranking the initial technical requirements, working with the major library e-book vendors to fill out surveys on their respective products,
checking and verifying these responses, and, most obviously, writing, editing, formatting, and proofreading the Guide. But, I hope we all can agree it has been worth our efforts in this giant advocacy step. <o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">I wanted to make sure to thank all of our members for their support over the last few months while waiting on this release. Additionally, it would only be appropriate to thank the library systems and library directors who supported their
staff members in taking part in the ReadersFirst Working Group and in helping to write, edit, and promote this Guide: New York Public Library, Brooklyn Public Library, Queens Public Library, Columbus Metropolitan Library, Southern Adirondack Library System,
Free Library of Philadelphia, Seattle Public Library, Vancouver Public Library, Sacramento Public Library, Montgomery County Public Libraries, Richland Library, Arlington Public Library, Douglas County Libraries, Salt Lake City Public Library, and the Santa
Clara County Library District. As well, it should be said that my colleagues at NYPL, Sam Rubin and Micah May, were the initial and main driving forces behind setting up the Guide, working with the vendors, and organizing the Working Group members in creating
this content.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">In conjunction with the release of the Guide, we will be taking part in the ALA Masters Series at this month's ALA Midwinter Meeting in Philadelphia. ReadersFirst is scheduled to present on Sunday, January 26th at 11:45-12:30 in the Conference
Center, room 202B. If you can attend, please come and show your support. I would like to acknowledge Working Group member Andrew Harbison of Seattle Public Library for his work on setting up the ALA program for ReadersFirst.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">After the ALA Midwinter Meeting, the ReadersFirst Working Group will convene to discuss sustaining and updating the Guide, new areas for advocacy, and new directions for our advocacy efforts. These ideas as well as feedback to the Guide
will be shared with you during our first conference call of 2014 in February. I will send preliminary information about the upcoming meeting next week.<o:p></o:p></p>
