couldn’t find any legal basis for banning them. I’m afraid we have to wait for the state legislature to act, and they’ve already pushed it aside once. I think the real issue for most of us is that kids don’t necessarily understand the difference between the real thing and an electronic one, and it’s not a behavior we want them to see and model. Realistically you can either (a) ban them and wait for a complaint to see if it holds up, (b)treat them as a tobacco product, enforce the no smoking policy, and wait for a complaint to see if it holds up, or (c) allow them but politely ask patrons to consider their surroundings and voluntarily abstain. I've never had to enforce it at this library, but I did at my last library. We directed the patron, who was living in her van with three cats, to a shelter that had washing machines that she could use.<br><br>We forbid smoking and using tobacco products on all of our grounds. It's also a part of our Code of Conduct. It doesn't specifically mention e-cigarettes, although I don't think it would be a far stretch to include e-cigarettes under "smoking".
