<div><img class="shape" style="HEIGHT: 0px; WIDTH: 0px" src="cid:image001.gif@01D04F77.63830DA0" width="0" height="0"> Joaquin Lopez, an award-winning musician, storyteller and small business owner, will be the keynote speaker April 23 at this year’s Oregon
Heritage Conference.

<p class="MsoNormal">The conference will take place April 22-24 in the Coos Bay-North Bend area. Its theme is “Chart Your Course” and emphasizes community approaches to heritage, including making your organization ship-shape and ready to sail for new cultural
heritage horizons.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"> </p>
<p class="MsoNormal">As a member of Los Porteños, Portland’s Latino writers group, he was co-producer last year for “Words that Burn: A Dramatization of World War II Experiences of William Stafford, Lawson Inada and Guy Gabaldon in Their Own Words.” The oldest
son of the Lopez family which has operated Mexican restaurants in Portland for the past 15 years, he creates after-school programming for at-risk Latino youth.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"> </p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Lopez received in 2014 the Bridge Award from Business for Culture and the Arts for innovative arts-business partnerships and the Espiritu Award from the Milagro Theatre, the Northwest’s premier arts and culture organization.

<p class="MsoNormal">Conference attendees will include community leaders, staff and volunteers from historical societies, museums, archives, historic cemeteries, ethnic organizations, schools, historic preservation commissions, humanities groups, Main Street
programs, the tourism industry, economic development, staff from local, state, and federal governments, geneaologists and professional historians and preservationists.</p>
